Every time a person reaches the age of sixteen they go through what everyone calls The Source. The Source is a power source that gives off certain powers. Every time when a sixteen year old enters The Source they exit with a power. Sometimes more than one.

But today is my day and I wait by the doors for the time to come when the doors will open. I’m really nervous but everyone says I shouldn’t be. But this is new to me. I mean there are lots of powers I could get and I’m nervous about what I will get. There are invisible powers, emotion reading powers, ghost seeking powers, healing powers, seeing the future powers, seeing the past powers, reading thoughts,  dreamscaping, changing into animals, the use of witches spells, the power to freeze time, the power to freeze things, the power to warm things, to burn things, the power to fly, the power to walk through walls. I just don’t know what I will get and I kind of don’t want to find out either.

I stood there as everyone spoke in a whisper behind me. I was going to collect my power and even if I didn’t like it I had to accept it and learn to control it. The doors opened with a loud ruckus and then I walked in. It was dark in there with only the light of The Source. I walk in and as my feet cross the line the door closes and I turn around. I’m scared now and want out. But I turn back around and walk to The Source. It is gleaming a bright Yellow and it is sort of painful being the only light in the room.

“Alexis Marie Andrews. Today is your sixteenth birthday and you come too me too receive your power.” It was a rough voice sort of like a mans but not. It paused and I got nervous. The voice echoed around me in this small round room. “You were born on this day and on this day you shall except the next stage in life. I hope you will accept this power and learn to conquer it. It will take time and practice but you seem capable.” It pauses and I know it is deciding my power. “I will give you the power to speak with the dead, to freeze time, and to read emotions. Now if you will please except your markings.”

Markings are a way to tell what a person has for powers. It is stamped on you like a burn that never fades. Usually it is found on your wrists or on your upper arm. Mine was my wrist. All three signs. There was a faded hand print for ghost seeking, a frozen clock for the power to freeze time, and there was a brain with emotions inside for the power to read emotions.

I’ve seen people with two powers but never three. It is always one power or two. Never three. What makes me so different. I want to ask The Source but the doors open and I walk out as everyone crowds me.

“What did you get?” “Is it good?” “Two or one?” These questions where roaming around and making me dizzy.

“Give her some space.” My friend says. I have two besties but only one has received her powers so far. She got one and that is too read thoughts. “She needs space.” I look at her and smile.

“My powers are ghost seeking, freezing time, and-”

“There is no third one. Impossible it is!” Someone interupts.

“My third power is too read emotions. As you can see I have all three markings.” Everyone gathers around me and looks at my wrist. They all backed away gasping. “I know it may seem impossible but The Source has giving me these powers. All three and I have accepted them.” I act like I am a robot. My voice steady while my mind spinning and pounding against my skull. I take a deep breath and walk out of the crowd my two friends following.
