I entered the bus and that's when the drowsiness kicked in.i tried to keep my eyes open in order not to miss my stop but my eyelids were too heavy,so they closed on their own accord.
"Ma'am you might want to wake up since we're already heading to the last stop and you don't want to miss your stop" A woman said,waking me up. I quickly opened my eyes and looked out the window only to discover that we had already passed the school building, which was now several blocks behind .I quickly begged the driver to let me down and took a taxi to school and of course I got there ten minutes late.
I ran to my first class which was math.Mrs Harris didn't even spare me a glance when I entered the class . She just held out a detention slip for me.I took it and quietly went to my seat.
It was lunchtime and all three of my friends were seated at our usual spot.i waved at them and they waved back. As usual, Dave ignored me ,using his phone. I really did miss him.
"Hey Av, why do you look like a bus ran over your face?" Amber said as I sat down.
"Wow Am , what a compliment?"I said sarcastically and she just shrugged "I'm just....tired".
"Anyway we've been waiting for you to come so that Dave here could help us get our lunch".Kayla said earning Dave's attention .
"Nah bruh.why me?"Dave asked.
"Because Ava here is tired, Kayla is lazy and we both know Amber can't go because she would finish it before it even gets here" Kayla said and Amber agreed.
"Fine" Dave sighed "what do you guys want".
"I'll have fish and chips and a milkshake "Amber said. Yes I know, my school serves good food.
"I'll have a chicken salad and orange juice "Kayla said. After a while I felt eyes on me. I looked up to see them looking at me and I raised my eyebrow.
"What do you want Av?"Kayla asked.
"Oh no, I'm fine. I'm not hungry"i said and I could feel Dave's eyes on me.
"Oh no, you're eating something whether you like it or not"Kayla said and because I don't want to argue, I told Dave that I was fine with a plain salad.He raised his eyebrow a little and then left to get the food.
When Dave returned, we all took our food and thanked him.
"No way Ava,is that your food?"Amber asked staring at my salad "Since when did you start eating grass?"
"Hey!,It's not grass ,it's good food"Kayla said defending her food.
"Still grass to me.Ava I'm so disappointed. I thought you were on my team" Amber said placing her hand on her chest.i just shrugged.
I twirled my food around.The others were busy eating while Dave was staring at me as if trying to figure something out.I needed an escape.Just then,An idea popped in my head.
"Uhm,guys I need to go ask Mrs Harris for what i missed when i wasn't in class today. See y'all later. Don't wait up,bye" i said and quickly left the Cafeteria before they could say anything. Once they were out of view, i dumped my lunch in the trash.I was not one to waste food but desperate times call for desperate measures.
I went to the library,where I knew they wouldn't be able to find me and stayed until it was time for class.
When the bell rang, signalling the end of school, I went straight to the detention room . A guy that I have never talked to in my life was there.Since, the teacher hadn't arrived yet, I put my head on the table and slept off.
