A/N:
Hey! So for the past few days I've been contemplating on whether to continue writing my fanfic "Secrets (a 5SOS fanfic)" or not and I came to the conclusion that it just wasn't getting the responses I was hoping for. I also decided that I was going to start writing a different kind of story. Instead of the teenage romantic drama that was seen in my fanfic I want to head towards the suspenseful mystery path. If you have read some of my fanfic then thank you and also you're in for a surprise!

As Max walked across the room he couldn't help but notice the strange lack of sound coming from his twin sister's room. Usually, Maxine had either Falling in Reverse or Avenge Sevenfold blasting through her stereos, but tonight it was like she wasn't even there. Max figured she went to her boyfriend Alex's place again. It wasn't like that was a surprise though, she was always sneaking away, especially when their parents were away. Which this weekend they were. But she always left her music on just in case they came home early.
Max brushed away the thought and went downstairs to see what he could find to eat. Man, this kitchen is a mess. Where's the food?! He thought to himself while he rummaged through the fridge. The twins' parents would always leave them money to buy groceries on the counter but when Max looked there wasn't any. Huh? Max wondered if maybe they put the money some place else. He looked in various spots for about five minutes until deciding to call them and ask. Max took his cell phone out of his pocket and dialed his dad's number.
The phone rang. No answer.
He called his mom's cell. No answer with her either.
Max began to get worried and started to imagine the worst. Max was so in thought of why his parents weren't answering that when the doorbell rang his heart practically jumped out of his chest. He slowly walked towards the front door as it rang again. He looked through the peep hole to see who it was but wasn't able to see anything. It was like whoever was on the other side had put something over it to prevent him from seeing. Maxine was known to do this and since she currently was not at home Max wondered if it could be her. The stranger banged loudly.
Max put his ear up to the cold wood to see if he was able to hear their voice. There was no sound though, not even the tweet of a bird. Max looked back into the peep hole but this time there was nothing blocking it. In fact, there was nothing there at all. Max searched around outside and when he saw there was not no one out there began to walk away.
Knock knock.
Max hesitated at the stairs and began to turn around. Bang! The sound came from Maxine's room. Max was positive she wasn't there though. So what was it that made the noise? CRASH!! He sprinted up the stairs, taking them three steps at a time. Max reached his twin's room and couldn't believe his eyes. The door was outlined with a glowing red light that seemed to have been coming from inside the room.
Max reached for the knob, turned it slightly, then let it creak open. What he saw changed him. Inside the room stood a girl who looked like Maxine, but he knew better than to think she was. He wasn't even sure if she was a she, let alone human. The girl spoke. It sounded like Maxine too! "Hello." It spoke. Unsure of what to do Max replied "Hi." His voice came out as more of a weak whisper than his usual athlete type voice.
The room was still shining a bright red when what must've been an earthquake happened. Max fell to the floor, banging his head in the process. The light began to dissipate, even the room seemed to disappear. Everything went black as Max went unconscious.
