I'm sorry for any mistakes (spelling errors, formatting issues, etc). This chapter was unpublished because I realized a whole chunk was deleted and rewritten originally (which is semi sad). The scene isn't as great as it was the first time. It still came out well. I'm not sure if I think this chapter lacks potential in comparison to the first draft. Anyways, enjoy.
"Yes Dad?" I questioned, putting my keys on the hook beside the door, my eyes still daggering into his. My father may have been intimidating to others, but as I grew older I found myself no longer affected by his intense stare. I wanted to avoid it at all cost, but if I could not, I knew not to break it. He held his position, his feet slightly spread apart and his hands interwined beneath his stomach and kept quiet for a few seconds before speaking.
"Who dropped you off?"
I raised an eyebrow,"What do you mean?I drove--"
"Wednesday night, who dropped you off? I know you were gone. I saw someone run around back." I licked my lips eagerly when he said he saw me. He couldn't have, it wasn't possible. If he saw me I would've known.
"You assume it was me?" I questioned, shifting my weight.
"Answer my question." He demanded, his voice raising slightly when he did this, I sighed loudly. I knew eventually he would say something, but when he didn't say anything Wednesday night I didn't think about it too much anymore.
"A friend." I stated, brushing past him, heading towards the living room, turning right and making my way into the kitchen. My dad followed closely behind, his face still hard.
"Ryan?" He asked, his voice turning cold.
"No dad. You don't even allow Ryan to come over anymore. He hated me for so long because I listened to you. He probably still does. I gave him the cold shoulder and that was wrong of me. He has always been there for me so, I couldn't carry out the task you asked me to do. Ryan's my friend." I stated unsure. "You don't have to accept that but, you must understand it." I finished, turning around and staring into my dad's eyes. My voice was slightly harsh. He scoffed, his eyes examining me in disappointment.
"Two weeks Vanessa. Two." When he said two, I knew exactly what he meant. I groaned and went to the fridge, and grabbed a bottle of Diet Dr.Pepper. Shutting the fridgator door I began to drag my feet against the kitchen's hardwood floor, walking towards the back door, which lead to the patio.
As I stepped out the hot sun hit my smooth skin abruptly. Groaning I made my way off the patio's deck, making my way past the patio's set. I walked toward the landscape which was built on the opposite side of where my bedroom was located. My back yard was somewhat large but, it wasn't too big. I headed over to my favorite spot: my hammock. I plopped down onto the handmock and took a sip of my beverage and lay it down in the grass. After a while I closed my eyes and relaxed. As I felt myself falling asleep my phone began to buzz. Sighing I pulled it out of my pocket only to see that it was an unknown number.
Dwayne (POV)
For a moment we locked eyes, our brows were furrowed. We were both thinking of our next move. Making the wrong move could cause one of us to lose. Sweat dripped from my brow and onto my face. Griffin began to pant as I dribbled the ball between my legs.
"The guys and I have everything planned for this Thursday." Griffin, one of my closes friends said as I dribbled the ball and passed by him, scoring. Ending the game. 50-32. Griffin shook his head and sighed."Man.." He started, wiping his forehead with the backside of his hand.
"It's off ." I said, trying to catch my breath. I was drenched in sweat. Although, I won the game, Griffin was competitive. Whether he was in the lead or not, he would give it his all.
"Off? What do you mean it's off?" He questioned raising his voice.
"As in there won't be a party this Thursday. You heard Mr.Hunt. I almost got busted for that." I stated, wiping the sweat from my forehead.
"Dude, no way. We've been planning this for so long. You can't just call it off. So, what? You didn't get caught. We've never gotten caught. Why's it such a big deal now?"
"Nah man. I could've gotten caught. The parties are held at my house. If I say it's off then it's off." I said sternly.
"We can move it to one of the guy's place."
"No, we can't just move it. There is no party, man. Period. What don't you understand?"
Griffin chuckled in disbelief, "You know what D, that's fine. No party. Just remember that. You asked us to do this. The guys and I went out of our way to throw this one and it's just off. Bet." He shook his head and walked off the court. Instead of going through my house like he did before, he left through the side gate.
Groaning I threw down the basketball that I had been holding for a moment. Griffin was right , I did ask him and the rest of the guys to begin making arrangements for the party. I just honestly didn't want to be bothered this week. By anyone. It's not like people bother me on a daily basis anyways. Honestly, I wanted the house to myself this week. I couldn't act like I was enjoying myself. I couldn't put on a smile and act like everything was ok because in reality it wasn't.
Parties typically kept made me feel better. I didn't feel alone yet, I did. No matter how many people were around. Sure, I was Dwayne, the kid whose parents were never around and had a nice stash of alcohol. That's all I was good for. My parents were filthy rich and didn't give two dips about me. From a young age, I knew they wouldn't be around. It's always been like that. The numerous butlers and maids my parents hired were the one who took care of me. From time to time my Aunt Danielle would come and watch after me but just like my parents she looked at me in disgust. Even though it wasn't as often as my parents something about me still made her look at me the same way.
My parents owned multiple business in and out of town and everyone knew. That's the only reason I was popular. I had a decent house, beyond average to most and I was filthy rich. Besides that I was one of the best student athletes at my school and I had decent grades for someone like me."Excuse me, sir ." My current butler, Henry, greeted bring me out of my thoughts.
"Yes, Henry?" I questioned, slightly irritated. I wasn't irritated with Henry but with Griffin and myself.
"Would you like me to bring you anything?"
"Uh..no thank you, Henry. I'll be right in. Could you do me a favor though?"
"What would that be, sir?"
