It had happened almost two years ago, and now the transformation of Felix Withers was not shocking to anyone anymore. He went from a geeky nerd to a damn he got hot, as the ladies tended to say. It seemed like out of nowhere, he started hanging out with the popular kids and became a love interest of many, many freshman girls and boys. It all had started right after the summer break of Felix's first year. He had come back to the Stanford University campus looking like a completely different person. Designer clothes, a new hairstyle, a toned up body; it all had just been the beginning of the new Felix Withers era.
Apparently, his personality had changed as well. He no longer hung out with Matt Ackman, his best friend, ex-best friend. They had that thing with a brother from another mother going on until Ackman had slept with Withers' girlfriend of two years, Jessica Summers. People had assumed it had been the cause of Felix's drastic change. Nobody would have guessed that it was all because of a secret club called The Heartbreakers Club.
Felix was sitting at his desk in the Assignment Room in the club base. He was staring at the screen of his laptop showing "New Assignment - Maddison Wilbert". He knew Maddison, they were attending the same biology class with Professor Kimura. Maddie was smart and quick to answer even the hardest questions, she impressed Felix. Even though he was really good at this job, he always had trouble breaking the hearts of people he was acquainted with. He recited the Three Fundamental Rules of a Heartbreaker to keep himself in the right mindset.
"One, never ever fall in love with the assignment. Two, pity is a weakness. Three, the club must remain hidden." Felix sighed and clicked "Details" to find out more about the assignment. Apparently, Maddison cheated on her boyfriend and blamed him for ruining their relationship. "Typical." Felix rolled his eyes.
"Let me guess, it's all his fault," Seth mocked a female voice and plopped down on a couch. "Anything interesting?"
"Not really," Felix answered scanning the rest of the assignment. "Have you finished your last one? It was Jake Peterson, wasn't it?"
Seth sat up straight and looked at the back of Felix's head. "Don't even get me started about it." He smoothed his worn-out black jeans that almost perfectly matched his hair. "He invited me over for dinner and prepared tons of Mexican food. And by prepared I mean bought frozen meals at 7-Eleven and heated them up. It was awful." Seth gagged and shivered at the sheer memory of it.
"At least he made some effort." Felix turned around to look at the other man.
"Overeagerness kills the joy, my dear Felix. Just because I'm half Mexican doesn't mean I eat only nachos and burritos all the time. I'm just so glad I'm done with this assignment." He ran a hand through his hair. "Oh, that reminds me that I still have to collect my check." Seth stood up and walked to the heavy oak door leading to the main hall of the club. "By the way," he leaned on the frame, "he was really boring in bed. No one compares to you." He smirked and stepped out of the room.
"We've never slept together!" Felix shouted after Seth, but all he heard in response was a loud chuckle and a simple "Not yet!"
Felix shook his head laughing to himself. He turned back to his laptop and clicked on the "Start" button to notify the Founder that the assignment is in progress. He then shut the device, stood up and grabbed his jacket. "Here goes your heartbreak, Maddie." He smirked to himself and left the room closing the door behind him.
Felix peeked out from a corner he had been hiding behind, he noticed Maddie was close, so he took a small step back then rushed forward with one swift move. The girl screamed in surprise when Felix bumped into her and knocked the books she was holding out of her hands. "Hey! Watch out!"
