Summer School Love Story (Short Story)

Short Story

In a small town, there was a girl named Zara, she is nice and beautiful but sometimes she has a peevish attitude. She fell in love with a guy named Tom. Tom was a bully but he as a good heart too.

"Zara wake up!" Her mom yelled at her.

"Mom 5 more minutes," Zara said then close her eyes again.

"I've spent 10 months of School, I think I deserve a 2-month break," Zara complained while her eyes are still closed. She is a grade 10 student and she failed to pass the OSSLT that's why her mom has forced her to go to summer school.

"No more 5 minutes! You've been saying that for almost an hour, you need to get up and fix yourself. Come on." Zara looked at her mom with a poker face and went straight to the washroom. After taking a bath, she wore a shirt and jeans and went to school.

Zara went inside the school and look for Ryleigh.

"Zara!" someone shouted at her, she looked around to find where that voice came from.

"Gav over there!" she looked upstairs and she saw Ryleigh waving at her.

While she was going upstairs someone tripped her that caused her to fall on the ground. Many students saw it and they burst into laughter. She looked up to see who tripped her, and she saw the guy staring at her, and his eyes were as cold as ice. It was the guy who always bullied her. Her tears fell all of a sudden. The guy who tripped her is the one that she liked since she was in grade 8, his name is Tom. Zara felt ashamed and ran to the washroom. Ryleigh shouted at her but she just ignored it. Ryleigh followed her to comfort her.

During their lunch, Tom approached Zara and apologized for what he did. Zara accepted his apology immediately. Tom asked her to watch a movie with him after class and she agreed to him without thinking twice.

"Are you crazy?! Why did you agree to watch a movie with him?!" Ryleigh asked angrily.

"You know I can't resist him ey, and you also know how I like him, this is what I've waited for so long, for us to be friends," Zara replied. Cassiel just rolled her eyes at her. She knew that Zara won't listen to her that's why she just let Zara do what she wants.

After school, Tom and Zara went to the mall and they watched a movie at the cinema. After watching a movie they had a walk at the nearest park and they talked about their lives. Tom realized that they knew each other for so long and all he did is to bully Zara. Tom insisted to bring Zara home because it's getting late.

"I just want to apologize once again for all that I've done to you Zara, I hope we can be friends," Tom asked when they got into Zara's house.

"Forgot about what happened, of course, we can!" Zara said.

After they talked, Zara went straight to her room with a smile on her face. Zara felt like she was surrounded by heart after they watched a movie and when Tom asked her if they can be friends.

Zara woke up wearing the same cloth she had yesterday, she didn't notice that she fell asleep last night because of happiness. She gets up and get ready for school.
When Zara arrived at her school, someone covered her eyes.

"Ryleigh stop! Get your filthy hand out of my eyes!" Zara said assuming it's her friend who covered her eyes.

"Excuse me? Whose hands are filthy?" Tom asked sarcastically as he removes his hands from Zara's eyes. Zara hit Tom's shoulder lightly and they laughed.

Zara and Tom were taking the same course which is OSSLT so they've decided to go to their room together. All eyes are on them as they walked through their hallway and some people were gossiping. The students are used to see Tom bullying Zara that's why they're wondering why the two are together. Tom and Zara ignored the students and walk straight to their classroom.

"Can I join you guys on lunch?" Tom asked Zara. Zara agreed to him and they went to their seats.

"So what happened yesterday?" Ryleigh asked as Zara sat on her chair.

"We've watched a movie and had a little conversation and he takes me home after, that's it Ry. You don't need to worry," Zara said and smiled. Ryleigh didn't ask Zara anymore because their teacher entered the room so they've just listened to the discussion.

L U N C H T I M E

"Ry, would you mind if Tom joins us for lunch?" Zara asked Ryleigh.

"Sure. What else can I do ey? For sure you've already agreed to him." Ryleigh said.

"Hey, Zara!" Tom called Zara when he saw them walking on their way to the cafeteria.

Zara waved at Tom and Tom ran towards them. The three had their lunch together but it's a bit awkward for Ryleigh because Tom and her were not that close. After their lunch, they went to their classroom and listened to their teacher's discussion.

Days have passed and the summer school was ended. Tom and Zara remained friends. The two became closer to each other because they often hang out together. Zara was really happy and still can't believe that they would be that close.

As they became closer to each other, Zara fell for him more until she realized that her feelings for Tom were not a simple crush anymore. Zara thought that she's already in love with Tom. Zara also thought that Tom was feeling the same way too because of how he acts towards Zara.

One night, Tom called Zara through phone and asked if they can meet because he has something to say to Zara. Zara told Tom that she has something to say too, that's why they've decided to go to the park. Zara felt excitement because she thought of Tom confessing his feelings for her. The two went to the park, the park was full of lights because it's really dark but there are still many people hanging around.

"What are you going to say?" Zara asked Tom excitedly.

"You tell yours first," Tom asked Zara.

"I just want to tell you something, Tom," Zara said trembling. She doesn't know how to start her confession because she, herself wasn't sure what to say. Her heart and mind were fighting either to tell Tom or not. But she chose to take the risk and tell Tom what she really feels.

"Tom, I want you to know how happy I am that we became friends, I've never thought that we would be this close. I know this isn't right, but as we became closer, I fell for you more and more. I had a crush on you since we were in grade 8, but now I don't know if it's still a simple crush, or I'm falling in love with you. I tried to stop my feelings for you, but it's hard," Zara said bravely, but with a little shame.

"Zara, I don't know what to say, you're a girl, you shouldn't be doing this. All I can offer is friendship. I have to tell you this Zara, I already have a girlfriend, and that's what I was supposed to say." Tom said with a sad voice. Tom felt guilty because he knew he hurts Zara again, not physically, but emotionally. Tom hugged Zara and apologized. Zara rested her head to Tom's chest and cried. She felt like her hearts broke into pieces.

"Stop crying Zara, I am not the right one for you, soon you'll be able to find the guy who can love you unconditionally, trust me," Tom said to make Zara feel better.

Zara faced Tom and smile, and she said, "You're right."

The two went home after they talked to each other. Tom insisted to take Zara home bu Zara refused. When Zara arrived at their house, she went to her mom's room and cried. Her mom hugged her and asked what happened. Zara told her mom what happened and her mom said, "Honey, you're too young for that, That's just an infatuation. Soon when you get older, you'll meet someone who's worthy of your love. Don't rush things, enjoy your youth, don't settle for less because you deserve the best. That guy wasn't worthy of your tears okay?" Her mom said and hugged her once again.

While walking at the park, Zara saw Tom and her girlfriend walking while their hands were intertwined. Tom went closer to Zara and introduced her girlfriend to Zara. Zara had a little conversation with them but she has to leave because she's going to meet her best friend Ryleigh. Zara realized how happy Tom was with her girlfriend so she just accepted the fact that they aren't meant for each other and that she was the only one who's into him while he's into someone else. She told herself that she will find the right one at the right time.
