Or So I thought...

She stood there

Staring at me

Tall and fair

As beautiful as can be.

Or so I thought.

My heart throbbed when I saw her

She was every man's dream

I couldn't keep my eyes off of her

She was the best there could be.

Or so I thought.

She took my hand in hers,

Kiss, hug, talk.

She was mine, I was hers

Or so I thought.

We were happy, laughing at jokes.

We were perfect in my eyes.

They saw the truth, the hoax.

They saw the broken goodbyes.

She wasn't what I thought.

I didn't listen,

I didn't want to.

I should have listened,

for it was all true.

She wasn't what I thought.

They told me dryly,

but oh so sorry.

She called me crying,

And oh so sorry,

Love cannot be bought.

The guys didn't help,

The girls didn't care.

But she felt,

Though also in dispair.

Her life wasn't what I thought.

I forgot the lies and heartbreak,

And saw her cuts and tears.

It wasn't all great,

I had to protect her from her fears.

She didn't know what I thought.

I never asked why,

but she still told me

About all the family lies.

She was as broken as can be,

or so I thought.

She soon got better,

as happy as can be.

She says I made it better,

It was all me,

That's not what I thought.

Together forever,

Hear the bells.

Happier together,

grasping the rail.

it's coming, I thought.

It was a bouncing baby boy,

as beautiful as can be.

We had a new life, new joy,

Created from her and me.

This could not be bought.

She soon left this life,

A mass, ugly disease,

ended her lovely life.

A despicable disease.

Or so I thought.

He was still oh so happy,

That boy I surely envied.

"Dad, don't be so unhappy,

She's the one I'll always envy."

that's what he thought.

He gave me hope,

With his and her God.

No longer did I mope,

For I was saved by this God.

His love could not be bought.

My son and God,

That's all I needed.

I knew it was illogical, odd,

But it was all I needed.

And that wasn't just a thought.
