With sandals on her hands, Maymay sat on the shore and let the gentle waves of caressed her bare feet. Still wearing the dress that she specifically bought for that day, she then released a very long and deep sigh before looking into the vast horizon.
The sunset is so beautiful. She thought sadly.
In a way, it so unfair for that beauty to appear right before her eyes now when her very own heart just ugly broke a few hours earlier.
She closed her eyes and let the cold sea breeze touch her skin. Well for the record it is her own damn fault why she's feeling miserable now anyway- for stupidly assuming that her best friend would finally confess his feeling to her when he called and invited her to spend a few days of vacation on Ilocos, his hometown.
But little did she know that the only reason he did that was because he wanted her, his best friend's support and presence, when he finally proposed marriage to the girl of his dreams; who is not her but his childhood friend in Laog whom he only recently got reunited with after years.
How could I not even know that he actually has a girlfriend? Argh grabe ang tanga ko! She wanted to slap herself.
On her defense though, ever since he resigned from their office about two weeks ago, they rarely even talk anymore. That's it is only understandable that she barely knew his latest whereabouts.
She and Vic met each other during their freshman year in college. They became close friends after he helped her fix her ruined project that is due on the same day it got broken, which resulted into her passing that subject during that term. Since then, they became inseperable. That they even applied for the same company after graduation and eventually got hired too.
In those times, she has always been a witness of Vic's monotonous love life too. Meaning, he had a number of girlfriends or flings (a much more appropriate way to call them) before but never really engaged in a serious relationship so she assumed that he's actually been keeping someone dear in his heart all this time instead.
But her greatest mistake is just to stupdily think that his special person was her after all. And what's worst is because of that assumption, she never allowed herself to be romantically involved with anyone else even though there were quite a few who expressed their interest before. Yep, she's a legit NBSB! Because subconsiously, all along, she's been waiting for her frustrating best friend to make a move and finally upgrade their relationship. Bud sadly, she only ended up heartbroken instead.
So now she's here. Alone in the so called Boracay of the North.
After his proposal she hastily got on her wheels and drove away from that place, thinking that if she stayed she might actually just end up making a scene. And she knew that Vic doesn't deserve it.
Again she sighed. But this time she put back on her strappy sandals next then stood up as if in defiance.
"Alright, let's get on with it Entrata."
She whispered to herself and walked towards the line of now open beach clubs beside Resort Hanna.Tomorrow is actually her 30th birthday. And tonight, for the first time in her life, she decided to go, let herself loose and do the things that she ardently avoid doing in fear of getting into Vic's and other people's bad side.
Maybe getting dumped indirectly has its own perks eh? She smirked inwardly.
Yeah, hopefully.
