SEARCHING for solace away from the rest of the order, Hermione wandered into the first floor living room. Everyone from the meeting earlier that morning had either left the building or returned to the downstairs kitchen to be served lunch by Mrs. Weasley. After looking about the room for a moment, Hermione found herself drawn to the large tapestry beside the old dusty cabinet. The hanging portrayed the Black Family tree, going back generations. Moving closer, Hermione began to follow the lines of names, eventually sliding her finger past where Narcissa Black had a golden thread linking her to Lucius Malfoy and coming to rest on Draco Malfoy. Pursing her lips in a suppressed smile, Hermione turned back away from the tapestry and began to reflect on the Order meeting and what it meant for her.

Hermione wasn't a Granger at all. She was a Riddle, the daughter of Lord Voldemort himself. Her mother had died in childbirth, and Hermione had been given up to a muggle couple, the Grangers, less than a year later, when her father was nearly killed by her supposed best friend, Harry Potter.

The man to give her to the muggles was Albus Dumbledore, who wasn't in favor of killing a baby and believed that she would grow into a powerful witch, a useful tool for the Order of the Phoenix when Voldemort rose again, as Dumbledore knew he would. If Hermione was raised by decent people, and felt prejudice against her by the Slytherins in school for being from the muggle world, then surely she would be on the light side.

Unfortunately for Dumbledore, when Voldemort fell and his daughter was given to muggles, one of Voldemort's most trusted and devoted followers, the only to even know of her existence, went out and searched for her, eventually finding Hermione when she was four years old.

After finding his master's daughter, Lucius Malfoy and his wife raised her as his own. Hermione grew up alongside their son, Draco Malfoy, and her existence was hidden from the rest of the world.

When Hermione was eleven, about to go into Hogwarts staged as a muggle-born, as that's what Dumbledore would make her out to be, Lucius was somehow contacted by the Dark Lord. He learned of Voldemort's plan to inhabit the body of a Hogwarts professor. When Voldemort heard that his daughter was still alive, he was pleased with Lucius, and told him to carry on with Hermione pretending to be a muggle-born. He had a plan, and if it worked, it would bring about the death of Harry Potter much sooner.

He had a memory charm cast over the two Grangers, causing the muggles to believe that they had always had a daughter named Hermione Granger, and that she had lived with them all her life. Hermione was only ever around them whenever it was necessary and to learn enough about muggle ways of life that she could pass as muggleborn.

Hermione had arrived at Hogwarts and been sorted into Gryffindor. She hadn't been at all happy to be stuck in Gryffindor instead of Slytherin, but it was necessary for her to befriend Harry Potter, as her father wanted her to. (There had been no doubt in the Dark Lord's mind as to what house Harry would end up in. Hermione had never been sure why, but had also never dared to ask.) She had to pretend to hate Draco, her life-long best friend, and it tore her apart.

Voldemort had no room for love, even for his own daughter, and if she failed him, he wouldn't hesitate to hurt her, torture her. He had only had a child so he could have an heir, just in case his plan for immortality backfired. He would have preferred a son, but decided that Hermione would just have to do.

And, even though she hated Voldemort, she somehow still wanted to make him proud of her, happy to call her his daughter. He was her father, after all.

The plan failed at first, because of that stupid Weasley boy, who had decided he didn't like Hermione and leaned Harry away from her. However, when they together tackled the troll, Hermione had finally been able to get close to Harry. Unfortunately, that also meant having to constantly be around Ronald.

Hermione kept trying to lead Harry into her father's traps, but when he actually got there, something always went wrong. The boy continuously survived, by letting others throw themselves in front of Voldemort, sacrificing their lives so he could live. Finally, after four years, one of her father's plans worked, and Lord Voldemort was able to truly return.

When Hermione arrived at Number 12 Grimmauld Place, she was hoping to gain some information on the Order of the Phoenix, but they were adamant that no underage children would be allowed in meetings. However, she did catch a few snippets of whispered conversation between a couple adults every now and then, being much more stealthy than she had ever been given credit for.

Then, after her fifth year, something changed about Voldemort. He was livid about the fiasco at the Ministry of Magic, but, this time, he didn't blame Hermione.

Voldemort took over Malfoy Manor, and, during the summer, he decided that he actually did like Hermione. She wasn't sure what caused this change of heart (metaphorically speaking, as the only heart Voldemort possessed was the one that pumped blood through his veins), but Hermione quickly became attached to this new version of him. Lucius had been the only father figure she had ever had, and now he was both in jail and in Voldemort's bad books.

Over the summer, Voldemort taught his daughter nearly everything he knew about the dark arts. She couldn't practice spells, because of the Trace, but she learned the theories and all about the history of dark magic, including her father's Horcruxes. She and Draco also remained close, and by this time had begun to develop romantic feelings for each other. They had been raised together, and had a great bond, but their feelings toward each other had never been like sibling love. Hermione did everything she could to protect him from Voldemort's wrath towards his family.

When Hermione returned to Hogwarts and learned that Dumbledore knew of the Horcruxes and was teaching Harry about them, Hermione informed Voldemort immediately. She spent the entire year pretending to help Harry find information about Horcruxes and trying to convince him that Draco had not become a Death Eater, though he had. She lied when she said that there were no books on Horcruxes; there were some that Dumbledore had missed in his raid of the library, hidden deep in the Restricted Section.

Now, a year later, the Order was finally made aware that Voldemort knew about his daughter. Hermione knew she would have to be extremely careful from then on. Being caught as a spy for the dark side would make the difference between life and death.
