An eclipse was, perhaps, the best time to find something unexpected, and the forest was, perhaps, the best place to find something unexpected. This is where we start our story. A forest, with a pitch-black sky, the stars covered by clouds. And amongst this was a woman.

She was, possibly, looking for something. Or maybe she was just standing there, unaware of her surroundings, staring up at the sky with confusion. Maybe she knew what she was doing, and maybe she didn't. Her hair was long. That might be the best way to start describing her. She had long, red hair, pale skin, and very blue eyes. On this night, in particular, she seemed to be waiting. Waiting for something unexpected, perhaps. Then something started crying.

The woman looked down from her trance-like state and looked around herself. Nothing was there. "It couldn't possibly be the wind," she said aloud to herself, and then shook her head due to the stupidity of such a thought. She checked again, as the sound of crying had intensified. And there was a child.

The little girl looked to be no more than a year old. Her head was propped up against a tree, her arms and legs splayed out around her as if she had fallen asleep. The forest was silent again. The woman bent down in front of the little girl. She took in her pale face, like a small round moon, her chocolate brown hair, and, as she woke up, her big caramel eyes. The little girl had her hair in small pigtails, and she wore denim overalls.

"Where did you come from?"

No reply. Of course, she was tiny, she couldn't form a proper word to save her life. And yet, she seemed to understand perfectly what the woman standing over her was asking. Heck, it looked as though she was trying to remember, but couldn't. And then she was asleep again. The woman rolled her eyes and picked up the child, and then she walked straight through the air and disappeared.

A/N: So, this was short, but it's still good I think. Anyway, I can't write to the level of Madeline L'Engle at all, but I tried to anyway. Hope you liked it!
