****Delilah POV****
"Tick tock , tick tock" the constant beating of the clock and the constant muttering of adults discussing cases was all I could hear. I've mastered the art of zoning out in my professional setting but still managing to pick out the important information."But he is FIFTEEN, for goodness sake" bellowed Mark. The sharp pronunciation of the number fifteen brought me back into my brown oak wood surroundings. I was part of the junior associates working with the District Attorneys office (DA) trailing many cases. I was under the supervision of Mark Townsend and he works closely with the special victims department. This current case is about a fifteen year old black boy who teased and accidentally pushed a trans-gendered boy over a bridge which later resulted in her dying.
"This is an extremely difficult situation because, he is only fifteen , how can we be expected to trail him as an Adult" I pleaded with Mark , failing to see the sense in what we was about to do.
"The mayor and our boss wants to make an example of this case, the important message they want to give off was that hate crime is not to be tolerated in California or anywhere else" Mark explained as he rocked in his chair. I shook my head in complete disbelief. "What point is it that we are actually making here, it just doesn't seem to make sense to me , if I can speak honestly" I commented.
"As you grow in this profession you'll come to find that a lot of what we do at court does not always make sense, we just do what we do with integrity and hope for the best. But for now I need you to get in contact with the people on this list to help with our case" Mark advised as he handed me the folder of documents.
I spent half my morning through lunch gathering information on our victim, the defendant , the family of the victim and defendant , witnesses , professional experts and the police who handled the situation. It's been a long stressful morning for me. Balancing working at the DA office and going to University is a lot trust me but I'm doing what I love so I can't complain. I am extremely lucky to be paired up with someone like Mark and the guys at the Special victims department, they are teaching me so much and they are all great mentors.
Mark and I finally got the chance to through the case one last time , I updated him with what I found out and those from his list of people that will be called up to the stand in Court. Mark didn't need much help he was a fantastic prosecutor. After our rundown, I left to go home to the condo I share with my sister. I was just so happy it was Friday which meant I got the weekend off.
I finally arrived home and the apartment was empty, I sighed a sigh of relief it's not often I get to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet. My thought was interrupted by a text message alert going off. I digged my phone out of my bag to see text messages from my sister and boyfriend and also other messages from friends from apps like Snapchat , Instagram and twitter. I decided to open my sisters message first and she just wanted to double check if I was still up to join her at her club appearance tonight, I really was not in the mood for that type of setting tonight , especially after the week I've had , I was looking forward to just taking a long relaxing bath and watching Netflix. I simply replied ofcourse and then moved on to my boyfriends message telling me "he'll see me at the club tonight" to which I simply replied that "I couldn't wait".
See my sister is what you would call a social media influencer, she started of with YouTube just before we left London and it has worked out really well for her. She gets to work with those that she loves and admire like Nicki Minaj, my sister doing what she does has giving me the confidence to also be a bit of a blogger on Instagram when time permits me to. It's fun really, we get sent things all the time to review and promote and get paid for it. Unlike my sister I have to be careful of my content because of my professional job and career path, if I want to be taken seriously I can't taint my image too much.
