Pulling the key from the box, I twisted it around in my fingers and looked at him. Only two weeks ago, he had asked me where I wanted to live, in the city or in the country. Knowing a small amount of real estate, I knew that no matter who you are, it still takes longer than two weeks to close on a house. With that being said, had he already had a house picked out when he mentioned the idea to me? Was it in the city or the country? Would I even like it, this house I had never laid eyes on?

Interrupting my thoughts, he shook my shoulder, almost as if waking me up from a daydream. He smiled, "Go get ready, I'll be here waiting for you. We can go by and look at the house before going to your parents."

Standing up from the couch, he reached for the remote and turned on the TV. Scanning through the channels, he was obviously looking for a football game, when I shut my bedroom door behind me. Today would be a busy day. We were to go to my parents for lunch and his parents for dinner. Still, all I could think of was seeing what this house, our house, looked like.

Stepping into the shower, I turned the water to steaming hot and allowed it to fall over my shoulders, leaving the necklace on that Scotty had given me just minutes earlier. Hoping that the water would wake me up some, I was still a little groggy.

Stepping out of the shower, I decided upon a pair of dark jeans, a hunter green sweater, and black boots. Deciding to be festive, I pierced my ears with a pair of small jingle bell earrings. Feeling satisfied with my hair and makeup, I re-entered the living room.

Seeing Scotty on the couch, he was stretched out, lying flat on his back. He had taken off the North Face jacket and laid it beside him on a nearby chair. His chest, still bare, he lay there in only his jeans and didn't even notice that I had opened the door.

Clearing my throat, I tried my best to regain my composure...."Umm, Scotty, you think you could put on a shirt and umm you know let's umm go look at this house?," I asked.

He smiled, and stood up from the couch, making his way closer towards me and causing me to grab the back of the chair to keep my balance...."Am I making you nervous?," he whispered as he pulled me against him.

I laughed, "McCreery, I can handle you. Now, get dressed. It's already after 10 and we have to be at my parents by noon."

He didn't move, instead he kissed the creases of my neck, and softly whispered in my ear, "Oh, you can handle me huh?"

Pushing him away, I smiled, "Stop it now, get dressed already, I want to see my Christmas present!"

He laughed and walked away, going back into my bedroom and retrieving his red polo shirt. Slipping it over his head, he walked over to the chair and put on his new North Face jacket. Turning towards me, he said, "I'm ready, let's go. I can only hope you're gonna love it."

I smiled, "I'm sure I will."

Pulling out of the apartment complex, we made a right turn and made our way in the direction of Garner. Passing familiar shops and businesses, I wondered exactly where we were going as we drove past our parents' houses. About ten minutes outside of town, the road turned smaller and was lined with oaks. Going a little further, he made a left hand turn on to a small gravel road.

Hidden at the end of this gravel road was the most beautiful house I had ever laid eyes on. Surrounded by a white picket fence, this two story red brick house had a wrap around porch with two white rocking chairs on either side of the front door and a white wooden swing hanging at one end with red and white throw pillows. Looking around the outside, I could see no neighbors or surrounding buildings for what appeared to be miles. There was an attached carport on one end of the house which also showcased a concrete driveway and off to one side was a huge and gorgeous oak tree. It was perfect and everything I had ever wanted, everything I had ever imagined and I had not yet even seen the inside.
