Date: Tuesday, August 15, 2028, 8:00 PM Mountain Daylight Time
Location: High School Racing Academy, Loveland ColoradoA young teenage girl, with long black hair, lies underneath a black 95 Mustang inside a multi-bay shop. She was taking the driveshaft out from the transmission and rear end. Earlier in the day, the teenager had been testing the car around a tight corner test track. She had heard something she didn't like. It sounded like a driveshaft vibration.
The sound of a V8 approached the open door of the bay. A white 2017 Ford F150 Raptor had pulled up behind the teen's car. Its driver opens the door and climbs out. A decently tall blonde girl, wearing an old red hoodie that says "DIESEL GANG" on it, had climbed out of it.
"Carly, call it quits for the night. Gotta get your sleep." The blonde girl said, hoping to get the attention of the Mustang's owner.
"Let me get the driveshaft out and I'll go, sis. I'm almost done detaching it from the trans." She replies.
Carly had a couple of bolts left on the driveshaft. She gets the bolts off and puts them off to the side. She slowly pulls the driveshaft out from the yoke of the transmission. The other end of the driveshaft hits the floor while Carly pulled it out from the transmission.
The blonde taps her shoe impatiently. She was obviously in a hurry to get home. Carly lets the other end hit the floor after pulling it out. She comes out from underneath the car. Carly picks up a rag and wipes her hands off.
"I'm gonna shut the lights off and the door. Then I'll be right out to the truck." Carly says, relieved.
Her sister nods and walks over to the white Raptor. She climbed in and fired up the truck's V8 engine. It roared to life. 5.0 Liters of Ford greatness. Carly shut the garage door and turned off the lights. After she shut the lights off, Carly headed out a man door near the bay with the Mustang. She opened the door and walked out to her sister's Raptor.
Carly opened the door and climbed into the front passenger seat. She closed the door and buckled up. Soon, they were off to their home in the rural side of Loveland. It was 3 miles west of Loveland, up in the canyon. The ride up to their house was quiet. Carly had put in a set of black and red earphones and turned on some music from her phone.
Carly's sister looks over and taps Carly on the shoulder. "Carly, why were you working on the Mustang by yourself?"
"Thought the crew could use some more rest before tomorrow's meet in Cheyenne. Thought I could take care of a problem I heard earlier today while going around the test track. Sounded like driveshaft vibration."
"Ah, I see. You should've called me and asked if I could help. Now if you need a new driveshaft, there's no way you could order one tonight and it would be here in time for the race. The driveshaft could be bent slightly and that could be causing the noise you're hearing. It's driveable but I wouldn't suggest it."
Carly nods. "I figured that much, that's why I tore it out of the car. I hope Coach has a driveshaft that's similar in length. Would you mind going in early tomorrow so we could get this all figured out, Chels?"
"I don't mind. Gotta make sure the car drives great."
They would soon pull up to a long 3-mile dirt driveway. Chelsea directs the Raptor onto the dirt road and drops the transmission down into fourth gear. She nails the throttle and the truck urges forward, V8 screaming. They are soon doing 60 mph down the driveway, throwing dirt up in the air at the same time. They head up and down some hills until pulling up to a decently sized two-story log cabin concealed within a lot of trees.
Chelsea pulls her Raptor up next to a matching classic 2002 Ford F350 Powerstroke Turbo Diesel with a 5" lift kit and 35-inch wheels with low profile all-terrain tires. She shuts off the engine of her Raptor and opens the driver's side door, triggering the annoying Ford door chime that everybody hates.
Carly takes her earbuds out entirely and climbs out as well. She shuts her door and walks inside. Chelsea closes her door and follows her little sister into the cabin. Their parents sit on the couch, reading the news on their antique smartphones. The home's interior looked super cozy, filled with pictures of the girls and the parents. Carly and Chelsea head over to a family room to talk and hang out for a bit.
The family room had an old Samsung Curved TV hanging up on the wall. It had two matching brown leather couches, broken in from years of use. Chelsea sits down on the couch facing the TV. She kicked her feet up, after taking her boots off, on the coffee table that was sitting in front of that specific couch. Carly sits on the other couch and lies her head back on the back of the couch.
Carly decided to sit up and untie her tennis shoes, a pair of black on white Converses. She took them off and sat them near her sister's cowboy boots. Chelsea grabs the TV remote and turns it on. She flipped it over to 9News, a local news station out of Denver. The capital city of Colorado.
The weather section just happened to be on when Chelsea flipped to Channel 9. The weatherman showed a forecast for the following week. He explained that rain was supposed to move in early in the day and then dry up by the afternoon. It had been a very rainy August, odd for Colorado to get a lot of rain in the Summer season.
"Aw man, rain again..." Carly said, not sounding excited about the weather. "I'm getting tired of this shitty weather, Colorado."
Chelsea just smiled. "Hopefully it clears up in time for that race."
Carly yawns while getting up off the couch. "Hopefully it does. Anyways I'm gonna go to bed. Night sis."
She walked up a set of stairs and turned left, going into a decently sized bedroom. Carly turned on the light, revealing the room's interior. It had an old 30" TV and a white Xbox One from the late 2010s, a Queen size bed that sat near the window. Carly slid off her jeans and put on a pair of really short shorts. She climbed into the bed and clapped twice to shut the light off. The young teenager fell asleep really fast.
