chapter 1

Mary was waiting for her mother to pick her up from school. She was a senior in Oakwood high school in Washington, the kids in the school were either, preps, jocks, snakes, etc. Mary looked at her phone it was 3:10 her mom was late, her mom was late for everything like her choir concerts, doctors appointments, meetings with the school to see what college she wanted to go, and even her dad's funeral. But if Mary's car was not in the shop she would be home right now, but she had an accident. She was driving home a little late a few nights ago, and while she was driving she saw someone or something in the road and she ran over it, and it somehow ruined her car, her engine was damaged, the oil pipe was busted, the two front tires were popped and the reams were gone. Mary walked out of the accident unscathed, she looked at her car to see what she hit, all she saw was her grill it was bent bad, she had to call her mom, and a tow truck to pick up her car. As she waited for the the tow truck and her mom, she felt like she was being watched, she turned around and saw nothing, "I'm probably tired, that's all." She said rubbing her eyes. Few minutes later the tow truck came and towed her car, the man looked around in his late 30s looked at her car and the damage, "do you have any idea what you hit ma'am?" Mary shook her head, "no sir I didn't, but it looked kinda big to this much damage." The man started to hook up her car, "well depending on the damages you won't be able to have a car for a few weeks, so I suggest that you should get everything out of your car, you got anything important in it?" Mary opened the driver backseat and pulled out her backpack, "just this, I don't think there's anything else in my car." The man nodded and started to pull the car on the bed of the tow truck, "you have anyone to drive you home?" The man looked at Mary knowing that being out here late at night wasn't a good idea, "yea my mom, she's gonna be late, she always is." Mary looked at her phone to see the time it was 11:30 at night, she called her mom like about an hour ago, and she knew that her mom was going to be late, "well I can't leave you here by yourself it's really dangerous even at this time of night." Mary looked at the man that was lighting a cigarette, "how so?" She asked curious, the man took a puff of his lit cigarette, "I've been down this road plenty of times to know that strange things have happened here, I've see a creature with black thick hair, with a skull shaped head like a bird, and people have said that he stalks kids, takes them away and eats them, but no one has ever seen this creature, or if they have they didn't live to tell the tale." Mary was a little confused, and scared to know such a thing like that. A few minutes have passed Mary and the man were talking for a bit, then Mary's mom pulled up next to them. She got out of the car and sped walked to Mary, and hugged her "oh I'm so glad that you're ok sweetie." Her mom said, her mom was always worried about these kinds of things, "I'm ok mom, in not injured." Mary reinsured her mom, and hugging her back. "Well let's go hun, oh and take the backseat John came with me". Mary stopped as soon as her mom said that name, the name of the man she hates the most, John. John is her mothers boyfriend, Mary hates John with a passion. John not only loves her mom, but when he is not in his normal state he's drunk: throwing things, calling her mom names, beating her mom, or doing the same thing to Mary, but that's not the only the he does he has done things to where Mary can't be in the same place has him, but Mary loves her mom and said millions of times to leave that bastard of a man, but her mom would always say, "honey I love him so much, I can't leave him." That sentence would always make Mary's blood boil in rage, because that man wasn't a man, not at all not on bit of a man. But Mary had to face him one way or another, so she picked up her backpack and walked to the car. As she got closer John came out of the car slowly, and the smell of booze stunk the area around her, she hates the smell of booze, she had to scrunch her nose in disgust but she had to act like she didn't smell a thing, "hey~~ *hick* there ssssshe issssss *hick*" John slurred, 'he is out of it' Mary thought. John tried to walk to Mary but he couldn't walk a straight line, he just wobbled and almost fell twice, "hello John" Mary said trying not to punch that dead beat of a man, "commmmme onnnn~~ letsssss go home nowwww *hick*" John said giving that smug drunken smile. Mary walked to the car and also helped John to the car in the process, "ok John let's go to the car." Mary said, "ohhhh~ you're ssssssooo sweeeeeet~ *hick*, illllll let youuuu seat in theeee fronttttt *hick*" John said while pulling at Mary's cheek. Mary opened the backseat of the car and placed John inside, she closed the door, and walked to the front door, opened it, and went inside. Mary just wanted to get home ASAP that night.

Mary looked up from her phone and to see her mom pulling up. Mary grabbed her backpack, and went to the car, "hey sweetie, sorry I'm late, I had to do some errands, and I lost track of time." Mary got in the car and buckled up, "it's ok mom." Mary said looking outside the car window, "are you alright sweetie?" Mary's mom asked she seemed concerned for her babygirl, "yea mom I'm ok, I'm just tired these classes are so hard." Mary said, her mom understood, "ok sweetie, oh and I got something to tell you!" Mary's mom changed the subject so quickly that Mary looked at her mom, "what is it?" Mary was now wide awake she was no longer tired, she now wanted to know what her mom had to tell her. Mary's mom put her left hand out to show Mary a ring that sparkled like a diamond, "what do you think?" Mary's mom said with a big smile, Mary didn't know what to think she just stared at the ring in awe, but then she realized what this meant, "mom don't tell me, h-he proposed to you?" Mary was begging her for mom to say no, but Mary's moms smile got bigger, "he did!" Mary couldn't believe what she was hearing, the man that she hates proposed to her mom. "Mom tell me you're lying?" Mary asked, Mary's mom shook her head indicating that she wasn't lying, "mom why would you say yes? That man is a bastard that drinks, and when he drinks, he gets physical, he beats you, calls you names, throws things at you, and you just say yes to his proposal?" Mary was getting angry at her mom. "Well honey I love him, you know this, you'll understand one day." Mary's mom said to her, but that just made Mary more angry, "yea but that is not today." Mary said filled with anger, she then got her phone her earbuds put them in and listened to music to calm her down (I don't have a specific song so just put in a song that you like). Mary's thoughts were racing she couldn't stop thinking, she just want to go home, and go to her room and just stay there.
