After I left Bobby's this morning I went home to change and get ready to hang out with Marcus. Bobby did try to get me to stay in bed with him, but I remember I had plans as we sat to eat breakfast. We had so much fun studying and talking music. He showed me what he's capable of with a guitar. He was telling me about this girl he has class with and he has a crush on her, but he doesn't think she looks twice at him. After stopping at the café for a coffee and snack break we headed back to our dorm. He dropped me off at my car because I was going over to my brother's house to hang out for the rest of the day. I drove to my brother's place and parked in his driveway. I sat in the car bracing myself to go in.
Me: If she says anything to me I will punch her in the throat.
My Mirror: Say the word and I'll join your family dinner instead of mine
Me: I'll keep you posted.
My Mirror: Please don't punch her
Me: What do I get if I don't
My Mirror: Remember that thing I did before we left for dinner?
Me: Those are high stakes.
My Mirror: Damn, I will be on standby my love
I got out of my car and walked up to the door. I knocked and Kimmy, my brother's wife I can't stand, opened the door. She smiled and attempted to hug me, but I sidestepped her and walked straight into the house. I found my brothers and sat next to them on the couch. My younger brother Darian was trying to hide his laugh because he had a clear view of the front door. Dontae looked at me and I just rolled my eyes. "So mom and dad leave me instead of taking me to Glamma's! That's not fair I want good home cooking too." Darian whined.
"Yeah, I would have loved to go too, but we have school," I smirked.
"Boo!" He rolled to the carpet. "Where's your boyfriend Bobby?"
"I didn't know if I got a plus one." I looked at Dontae.
"Yeah, invite him. You've already brought him to church." Dontae nudged my leg.
"I'll text him." I shot him a text and he said he'd head over. "What am I cooking Darian burns water and if you were cooking the grill would have already been going."
"How do you know Kimmy isn't?" Dontae smiled.
"Dontae I am trying to be on my best behavior."
"I can cook!" She squeaked.
"If I burn water you burn air." Darian propped his head on his hand. Darian and I laughed and Dontae started to chuckle, but quickly turned it into a cough. "So you and Bobby are dating?"
"Isn't he a bit too old for you? You're still pretty young and he's an established grown man. I'm just trying to look out for you." Kimmy attempted to sit by me.
"Oh, that is so sweet of you Kimmy. It's a shame that you can't pick your sibling's significant others. The world would probably be a better place if you could." I stood up.
"You can pick your friends, but you can't pick your family. That's what I always say. Isn't that right Dontae?" She smiled at my brother.
"Yeah, but you can choose who marries in, right Donate?" I shot my brother a look letting him know to get his wife before I was forced to. Darian sat up and hugged my leg. He looked up at me as if he were begging me to not do anything. Kimmy always pulled the petty out of me. "So, is Bobby coming over?" Darian slowly let go of me.
"Yes, he is. What am I supposed to cook for dinner? You know what never mind I got this." I walked to the kitchen. I looked into the fridge trying to figure out a way to just cook for my brothers, Bobby, and me without making enough for Kimmy too. I saw my brother had recently gone grocery shopping and sense it was already almost 6, it was too late to cook the roast so I took out the chicken thighs. I grabbed the things out to cook dirty rice, macaroni, cornbread, and spinach. I pulled my hair up and pulled out a pan. I was happy to be alone in the kitchen because being in the living room I would have already gone for her throat. It was a known fact that I hated Kimmy from the time Dontae brought her home. Everyone just did their best to keep us apart. I smelled the familiar cologne engulf me and two strong arms hugged me as I cleaned the chicken. "We're you sent in here to make sure I'm not poisoning her food?" I asked.
