He awoke to a constant high-pitched beating, like a pulse. He slowly opened his eyes although they felt like bricks. Ryan didn't know where he was for the room was completely white. White bed, sheets, desk, curtains, and furniture, even the flower vase was white. A man dressed in white opened the door who was followed by a woman in a white dress, behind her was a cart full of little bottles of medicine, syringes, and needles. They shut the door and it clicked behind them.
"What are you doing?" Ryan asked, as the pulled the cart up beside him. "And where am I?"
"Oh, good your awake," the woman said, her voice light and fluttery. A name tag on her shirt suggested her name was Nurse Montgomery. "You are in Linnings Hospital."
"Why am I in the hospital?" Ryan asked.
"Don't you remember," the man replied, his name tag reading 'Intern Bentley'. "You fainted at school."
"No, of course I don't, I fainted," Ryan said, he was really irratated and he rubbed his eyes. "But I just fainted, it's not a big deal. Why am I in the hospital?"
"We have to allow your mom to explain that, sweetie because it may be hard to hear from us," Nurse Montgomery said.
"What do you mean?" He asked, getting more confused by the second. At that exact time, the door reopened and Ryan's mom walked in. She was very short, significantly shorter than Ryan, so it was weird seeing her from below. She sat on the edge of Ryan's hospital bed and patted his leg.
"Hi, Rye," she said calmly, as if he would break if she spoke normally.
"Hi, Mom," he replied. She took his hand in hers and sighed, one of those sighs that show how much stress or pain that you are in. This one showed both. "Mom," he repeated, for the second time that night. "What's wrong?"
"Rye, I want to reveal this to you shortly and quickly because I know what I tell you will not settle right with you." Ryan began to panic, as always, fearing the worst. "You have GAD," she said bluntly with no emotion, for if she did she would overflow and snap. Tears welled in his mother's eyes. She looked up at him, directly, with tear-filled eyes. "It's the worst case the doctors have seen in 13 years. They have to transfer you, in two days, to Jones Mental Sanitarium." She wrung her hands, then began wringing Ryan's. "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry," she said to no one in particular, staring at Ryan's hands. Ryan was frozen, not the frozen you feel when your shocked but the frozen you feel when you are scared. He would be away from his family, friends, and any chance of a normal life for however long it took to get him cured. He wouldn't go, he couldn't.
"I-I'm not crazy," he said, having trouble getting the words out of his terrified mind. The beeping on the wall behind him got faster. Once again his chest got tight and he couldn't breath. Then he blanked, all he saw was white light, all he felt was a searing pain in the back of his head, all he heard was his mother screaming, "He's having a seizure, he's having a seizure. Do something, do something." Then he felt another pain in his arm until he was succumbed into a peaceful, seemingly endless, black void.
