I woke up like any other day, with my Dad unleashing our dog Bouncer into my room. He got the name because he doesn't walk like normal dogs... he bounces.
When I found out I had magic I decided to test out some of my powers. Lets just say do not fire one of your first ever spells at the dog.
So Bouncer bounds into my room and decides to jump up and down right on my bladder. Naturally I fling him off and leg it into the loo. It's fine the dog just bounces of the walls. I can hear Dad yelling from downstairs
"Iris get your butt down here or else you will be going to Hogwarts in jeans and a T-shirt." I giggle.
"Dad that wouldn't be such a bad idea, although I don't think that Dumblebore would appreciate the Pokemon references on my tee."
Oh crap that's not his name is it?
"IRIS IT'S DUMBLEDORE!" I jump out of the bathroom and slide down the banisters. Tumbling forth gracefully on my bum.
Ow!
Dad stares down at me, his hazel brown eyes glinting with humour. I look up tucking a scruffy blonde strand behind my ear; only for it to pop back out again moments later. " I think my version sounds better, I am very sure that he would love it more than his original name." We both chuckle, as I plonk myself down on a chair for breakfast. Dad mentioning Hogwarts to me, reminds me of how dream like all of this seems.
It has only been a year since I found out about the magic world. I guess after mum died he didn't really want to talk about all the things that they had once shared in the wizarding world.
I was 10 when she died. At first it didn't really sink in, but when it did it felt like nothing else mattered apart from the vast empty darkness that swallowed me whole. I didn't eat, talk, and barely.
I just existed.
That's when I had the dream. I can't really explain it, it was just so vivid. She was there, my mum, Persephone. Living, breathing... there. She couldn't have been real. She was dead! I woke up screaming. The room was empty apart from my furniture. Phew, it was just a dream. That's when I felt it. A hand on my shoulder. I don't know why I didn't scream. I just didn't. I felt unusually calm. I knew it was her. Turning around she was standing there just liked I remembered her. Beautifully long blonde hair flowing gently down her shoulders, tropical turquoise eyes, and her smile. The type of smile that makes you feel like that you are her love and life.
All she said to me was "Iris, my baby, my little witch. I am so proud of you and I love you."
I could not believe it, this was really happening. Whilst she was fading, I heard Dad race in, and from that moment he knew that I had seen her.
Everything came out at the moment: wizards, witches, magic, all of it. I knew he was telling the truth just because of the way that he was looking at me. I know my Dad, and this was not a laughing matter. Dad was a wizard and mum was a squib from her magical family. They were not sure whether or not I was magical, there were a few signs but what had just happened confirmed it.
I am awakened from my thoughts by Dad slamming a cup on the table. "Come on Iris daydream, we need to get you some robes."
I look up at him and a giant grin spreads across my face.
"Then what are you waiting, for lets go!"
