I sucked in a breath and lightly pushed him away. I could see the disappointment in his eyes as he took a step back.
" I.... I'm sorry...." I looked down and started walking towards the door to go inside. I could hear his footsteps getting closer to me. I stopped and turned around to face him. he was about 2 steps away from me.
I looked up into his face, but he was looking at his shoes embarrassed. I bit my lip and walked up to him. he glanced up at me and gave me a fake smile, jamming his hands into his pockets.
" I'm not ready for anything.... like that...." I mumble." you're my boss and I don't want things to get in the way if my job, even though you are my job...." I sigh, tripping over my words. " jimmy what in trying to say is that.... yes. I like you. a lot. who doesn't? you're perfection in a suit." he laughed a little. " I just don't want to make drama. you've only been divorced for what? 2 months? Jimmy I want you to be mine but if I'm working for you then I just-" he held up his hand to stop me.
" I get it. you're not ready for a relationship that can cause such a social explosion and cause drama in the office." he smiled and wrapped me in a hug.
" Thank you..." I mumbled into his chest.
" I think we should get to know each other better anyways." he smiled, holding me away from him for a bit. "dinner at my place?" I nodded and wrapped my arms around his waist.
" Just friends?" I looked up at him.
" Best friends forever." he giggled.
" Yea..." I grinned.
••••••••••••••••••
I walked into my closet, searching for a casual yet classy outfit. it was a bit chilly so I pulled out a pair of black jeggings with cargo pockets on each side. I then decided on a teal shirt with tanktop sleeves. the hips flared out a bit and the back came down in a point. I got dressed and turned my curler on. as I waited for it to heat up, I turned Pandora on 80's Hits and sang along to I Love Rock and Roll.
I loosely curled my hair and pinned a piece from either side back. I pulled out my makeup bag and started applying a thin line of eyeliner to my top lash line. I gave it a small wing and used a pencil on my waterline, only lightly putting it on. it really made my green eyes pop. I put on 2 coats of mascara and curled my lashes. after I put on a little blush, I slipped my teal vans on and grabbed my purse.
" TAXI!" I called, waving at the street. a taxi screeched to a stop beside me and I hopped in. I gave him the address and we were off.
In seemingly no time at all, we had arrived. I payed and thanked the driver as I stepped out. I walked into the lobby and looked at the note in my hand that Jimmy had given me.
I made my way up the stairs to his apartment and knocked on the door lightly.
* CLANG BAM *
I covered my mouth to hold a giggle in. The door swung open to reveal a disoriented Jimmy.
" Hey!" he said, pulling his Beatles shirt back down and motioning me inside.
" What was that noise?" I chuckled as I walked through the door. he scratched the back of his neck and gave me an embarrassed look.
" I uh tripped over the trashcan..." he mumbled, nodding at the trash strewn over the floor. I covered my mouth and laughed.
" Are you okay?" I walked over to him.
" Yea... just hurt my pride mostly..." he said the last part under his breath. I looked down to notice that he had on cargo shorts. his knee was red from the trashcan I suspected.
