I looked up and my eyes widened at what I saw. Sam was hanging off of the side of the flat roof from our school building, she was panicing, trying to get back on top. One of the villains' blasts must've hit dangerously close to her spy spot.
I tried to activate my jetpack to save her but...
"No! Not now!"
It was busted in the blast. I did the only thing that was left for me to do.
I ran.
I ran as fast as I could.
"Sam hang on!" I shouted, but she was too far away to hear.
I bashed through the door past frightend, hiding students and made my way up to the roof. When I arrived my eyes darted around the area, searching for Sam. I spotted her hand still holding on. Her knuckles were already turning blue.
"Sam!" I called out, racing toward her.
"L- Luna? Is that you?!" Her voice was shaky. She was clearly terrified.
"Yeah! I'm coming to get you!"
Who cares if I revealed myself in that moment? Sam was in serious danger, maintaining my identity was the very least of my concerns.
I almost reached her. I was just about to grab her hand and pull her back up when-
"AH!"
The ledge gave way.
Sam was falling toward certain death.
Screaming.
I turned around, tears pricked my eyes.
I walked about 3 meters away before turning back around and jumped down my college building with a running start and sky rocketed toward the ground.
Her eyes went wide when I wrapped my arms around her.
"Luna?"
I smiled and pressed her against me. My jetpack was broken anyways, it didn't matter that it was facing down.
We hit the hard concrete floor. I could feel it break under the weight of the two of us.
I released Sam from my grip and let my arms go limp on the floor.
She looked at me with tears. Her eyes were wide as she called out my name. My head felt funny.
It took me all my strength to sit up. I went to hold my pounding head.
Sam was frantically searching for her phone only to find out it broke aswell. She called for someone to call an ambulance.
"Hey..." I called out weakly. "I'm fine..." I wanted to hug her so badly to reassure her that I was. She was badly bruised aswell. She definitly has some broken bones too so to think she was trying to call an ambulance just for me was selfish in retrospect.
But when I went to wrap my hands around her, I noticed it.
Blood.
My gloved hand was covered in blood.
The back of my head hit the floor hard earlier. I weakly turned to the spot where we landed and noticed the red stain on the ground.
My vision started to blur as I realized what was going on and the adrenaline started to wear off.
I fell limb in Sam's arms. I could feel her holding me tight as my eyelids grew heavy
There was no beat
And no melody
And then
Everything faded to black.
