The beautiful city lights start to fade away outside the bus windows. It's sad to leave but I know I need to start again. My name is Gerard Miles. I am currently on a trip to a town out on the coast of Japan to start my final year of high school. As much as I hate to abandon Tokyo, I don't fit in. People give me strange looks and turn their heads when I'm around. I woke up a week ago in a hospital with no memory of how I got there. The doctors told me I was hit by a vehicle and suffered only minor injuries to my head. When I asked about more details they said that no one witnessed it. Before I checked out, two men in black suits asked me questions. I told them that I had lost my memory and all I can remember is my name and my personality. They politely responded with "Thank you" and I never saw them again. After the strange events I decided to move to see if it would be better to start again.
Some Hours Later...
The train's silence was broken by a announcer's voice saying "You have arrived at Kirigaya Terminal. Welcome to Seaside." This is my stop. I walk out of the train doors and see the off white walls of Kirigaya Terminal. In front of me there is a wide set of stairs leading to the surface. I soon realize I am the only person to exit at the Terminal. The doors quickly shut behind me and the subway starts speeding to the next stop. The emptiness frightens me. I almost feel like I should leave but, I guess I'll never know until I try. I push myself to work up courage and climb the stairway. I am surprised to see freshly paved roads, clusters of houses and shops, tons of people on the sidewalks, and a beautiful view of the ocean. I stand still in front of the tunnel, as if I'm in shock. I can't believe I've never heard of this place before. I finally come to my senses and reach for the note in my pocket. My doctor told me to find an address he had written down. I begin my trip to the building and take a look around. The town is full of clothing shops, restaurants, bakeries, and more. The mixed aromas of the foods fill the air and instantly build an appetite inside me. I'm gonna have to wait till I arrive at my new home because I have no cash to spend. I eventually come up on a small gray building. It's front sign matches what is written on my paper. I walk to the front door and knock to see if anyone is home. Eventually someone opens the door. It is a man with very tired eyes and black and gray mixed hair that was very messy. He was a medium build with fairly pale skin and he looked about mid 30. His 6 foot height was intimidating. Eventually his angered stare changed to a face of concern. "O-Oh my god. Gerard, it's you." He leaned forward and gave me a extremely tight hug. I felt a tear drop from his face onto my shoulders. "I can't believe this. I've never seen you in person before." He let go and invited me to come in. "My name is Michael. I'm your mother's brother. What're you doing here?" "My parents left me and I got into an accident. I lost my memory and I was told that this would be the best place to go." "Oh man, that sucks." "Yeah, is it okay if I live here temporarily?" "Oh yeah totally. Take all the time you need. When you're ready to go to bed I have a guest room upstairs. Make yourself at home and welcome to Seaside." "Okay I'll see ya in a bit." I started to walk up to my new room. Looks like my new life has just begun.
