father daughter dance

flowers on wrists and hair tied by strings

people of all ages come to laugh, dance, and sing

balloons bound to walls with streamers taped high

I would be there with you if you hadn't been forced to say goodbye

some people have it better

they're the lucky ones, they say

I believe the dad I had

taught me even more by not being able to stay

you can never come back to hold my hand

be at my wedding, have late night drives, or tell me about your band

it's times like these when I miss you most

you were my whole world and now all you are is a ghost

you were more than I asked for

although you're long gone

but  the light that you put in me

will help me find where I belong
