A soft breeze blew through the meadow and though my hair, it smelt of spring flowers and freshly mowed grass. I looked out across the meadow at the path that cut straight across, even though I walked along it everyday it it seemed to look different, maybe it was because the setting sun was shining on it from a different angle or maybe it was because a storm was coming. It's amazing how our meadow has survived so many months without water. I pictured my mother running down the path towards me singing "A storm is coming! A storm is coming!" Even though I already knew it was going to rain, but I would run to my mother and give her a massive cuddle. I walked down the steps of the porch. I looked up at the sky the massive violet clouds covered the sun and the wind picked up. The clouds started rumbling, it sounded like someone was smashing china plates and cups everywhere, the sound was horrifically loud. My pocket started to vibrate which made me jump over the moon. I almost had a heart attack when it was my mother at the other end.
"Aurora, listen very closely. You must bring everything inside and tie down the chairs outside."
"Why mum? It's just a storm?"
"Listen I can't come home, it's too dangerous. You must do it now and it's doesn't matter if you're not done just make sure you're inside."
"Mum! I don't understand?"
"Just make sure you're inside when the wind picks up!"
"But.."
"You're running out of ti... "
I look down at the phone. It's cut out. I run around frantically putting things inside, tying down things. I was half way through tying down a chair when a huge gush of wind blew me over. I turned around in horror to see a tree flying at me! I ducked as the tree skimmed my back. I look around and trees, hay bails, even cows are flying through the air, I get up and sprint inside. I slam the door shut and lock it. I am leaning on the door I can feel everything shaking and rattling. I take my back off the door, I can hear something shaking like crazy, I walk into the kitchen I can see mum's antique cabinet shaking. I walk up to it and grab the rope I had which was for a chair. I walk over to the side of the cabinet I pull a chair next to it and tie the rope onto it, I turn just as the cabinet falls. Inside it was mum's special china plates. The cabinet crushes my toes with a loud crash. I scream in pain. My toes are numb I try to lift the cabinet, but it's too heavy. I sit on the chair behind me, it wobbles from side to side. "Ah ah". I pull my self up putting my toes in more pain. I turn around as far as I can and flip the chair over, I grab one of the legs and wobbled it back and forth until it snaps off. I wedge it under the cabinet and push down. The cabinet lifts up enough for me to slide my toes out. I don't even bother looking at them, instead I hobble upstairs and run the bath. Even though the water is freezing, my toes are numb with pain. Now that all the blood is gone, I pick all the china out with tweezers. It hurts so much, but I have no other option.
The house shakes and I feel like it's going to blow away! "Crash! Bang! Smash!" Everything is falling over now. I wrap my feet in with bandages from when I broke my arm. I put socks and shoes on so it doesn't happen again. I was running around making sure that all the things that hadn't already fallen over and secured them. I was trying to secure another cabinet when the house started shaking like crazy, I thought maybe there was an earth quake. I looked at the door, it had ripped off the hinges and was just hanging on. All of a sudden it went flying off. In terror I could see a tornado moving towards the house!
