The Commons

The next day, I got up so early that even Thalia, who always studies at like, 3:00 in the morning, was not yet up. Today, I would go to the most famous commons in all of Magical America, a national landmark, Dealio. The Commons are world-famous, and always pretty busy. They are especially busy this time of year. The reason they're so busy now is that they have so much to sell just before the start of the school year. Every school-aged kid in America needs lots of school supplies. This year is the first year I get to go there and get supplies! In elementary school, it was the teacher's responsibility to get school supplies for the upcoming school year. So, this year, I get to for myself.

When I got up, I immediately went to Lilac's house. We would spend our last day just talking and going down to The Commons. We're going to middle school. OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!

I looked at the list with its fancy lettering and uses of words like "Thus far, therefore, and Accolade." (I had to look that one up.) With a stomach full of butterflies, I tried to concentrate on the items I actually needed. Lilac looked up from her own list and at me. "Accolade?"

                                                                                         ...

Lilac and I strolled into "The Fountain of Robery" with no intentions of buying standard robes. They were not required at STEM, so we didn't bother ourselves with them. The lady behind the counter was ringing up a boy our age in a long, flowing scarlet robe. They were in the midst of a conversation. "...And soon, I should like to think that a stupid "girls school" such as "STEM" is abolished!" I Lilac gasped. I tapped the boy on the shoulder. He spun around. "Excuse me, but my friend and I need to buy our clothes for the upcoming school year at STEM, the school the president's daughter is attending, the one with five stars on WitchBit Ratings, and the one with an American Women's Suffrage course required for all pupils." He gaped at me. "Sure. I'll be on my way, then?" He glances at the woman behind the counter who was smirking at him. She gave a little wave and a sarcastic smile, and he was on his way.

"May I help you?" Asked the woman behind the counter. Lilac shrank back. She was quite shy around new people. "We would like to see the STEM required uniforms please." The woman smiled. "What are your names?" She asked, mainly to me. "Lilac." said Lilac, as quietly as humanly possible. "I'm Daisy." I told the woman. "It's nice to know they're setting up a Witchcraft school in America. They've had Scoil na Draoi, Naga Mulia, and Denoa Boy's School for so long. Anyway, those uniforms..." The woman babbled on for a few minutes as we went around the room collecting clothing items. The woman looked at a sweatshirt thoughtfully. "I'm told it gets cold quite often, in Nevada."
