Soooo I'm back after a while of not publishing and I've been writing a lot! I have another story coming out around June.... I hope you enjoy this short one!
"Jess, it's 30 degrees outside. I'd put on a pair of jeans if I were you." I told her, rolling my eyes slightly.
She scoffed, "Unlike you, Holly, I'd like to look good at a college party."
I replied with a short shrug and refocused on reading my new book. She busied herself with applying her signature red lipstick, and taking at least a hundred pictures in my mirror.
After another twenty minutes of awkward silence, I finally heard the knock at the door that I had been waiting on. I bounded down the stairs, two at a time, and let them in. By them, I mean the other two members of our friend group.
"Hey Holls, are you guys about ready to go?" Logan asked briskly.
"Well," I drawled out, "I am but Jess could be another hour for all I know."
"Talking about me already? I guess I can't blame you, I am pretty awesome." Jessica joked as she bounced down the staircase, tight dress and heels firmly intact.
Ethan let out a relieved breath, "Good, we can get there within a decent time range. That'll be a nice change."
After another few moments of teasing each other and laughing we made out way out to Ethan's truck. Within minutes we were pulling into the parking lot of the old hotel. From where we were parked the hotel looked lifeless and depressing. It was as if all life in the huge hotel had been drained completely. A huge wooden sign read "Hollington Hotel" in big letters. When we got out, even the air felt silent and it made me feel restless. The feeling in the depths of my stomach was screaming at me to turn around and go home.
"Wow, this hotel is the definition of haunted. Hopefully this isn't a costume party." Jessica breathed out with a wide smile. Her comment broke the tension in the air slightly and I felt myself relax slightly.
Reluctantly, we made our way to the hotel doors. The closer I got to the hotel, the stronger the feeling in the pit of my stomach got. I shivered slightly and slowed my pace so that Ethan went in front of me. As selfish as it is, I was terrified. Logan passed me and laughed slightly.
"Holls, it's okay. It's just a creepy hotel." He smirked smugly.
I glared at him, "I've always been the scaredy cat of the group, cut me some slack. You're on my side, right Jess?" I looked around for Jessica but she was already waiting at the doors for us. I laughed slightly before jogging to her.
Nobody exchanged any words as Ethan lightly shoved the door open. It let out a loud groan as we opened it, the hinges too rusted to open fully. We all squeezed into the lobby and let the door rest open behind us considering it was the only light within the room. The hotel reeked of mildew and dust. I pulled the cotton of my shirt up to my face and breathed into it. The hotel furniture was draped in white clothes and the blinds were shut with heavy sheets of fabric.
We took a few steps deeper into the lobby before a loud creak was heard and the door slammed shut with immaculate force. We all jumped in surprise before scrambling back to the door. Unsurprisingly, it didn't budge as we pulled on it with surprising force. Logan was the first to speak.
"Not to be captain obvious but I don't think there is a party going on anywhere near this place."
"Thank you, Logan, we hadn't figured that one out yet." Jess rolled her eyes along with the sarcastic remark.
"Okay you two, don't kill each other. The hinges are probably just rusted. We can find another way out." I offered quietly.
"Holly is right, and on the bright side we can look around a little. It is senior year and it wouldn't hurt for us to experience more that slimy fish sticks and hiding from Mr. Benser in the chess club room under the school's stairs." Ethan agreed with a chuckle.
