Heather Duke was new. She had lived a few towns over for most of her life, so when her parents had suddenly told her they were moving she was dumbfounded. It hadn't be too sudden, but she just couldn't actually believe it was happening. Her dad's job didn't pay well, so he had been looking for a new one for awhile. Finally Sherwood, Ohio had a good job to offer. Heather thought moving would be the worst part; learning a new house, finding a route to school, ect. Getting new friends was at the bottom of her list of things to do. She would just stay in the shadows like she had done all throughout middle school.

Heather Chandler and Heather McNamara had been friends since the third grade. McNamara had been shy, so it was Chandler that really pulled them to the top of the social hierarchy. See Chandler heavily craved attention. She may be pretty and witty, but her parents didn't give her attention. That's why she chose to look for attention from the guys. McNamara had just stuck by her side as a loyal friend, thus getting pulled up with Chandler. By the sixth grade, the Heathers were known as the queens of school. They were beautiful and puberty didn't even seem to give them any of the bad stuff. If you wanted makeup inspiration, it was the Heathers. They seemed to buy happiness with all the makeup and cute outfits.

As Freshmen poured through the doors of Westerburg High, Duke stayed away from confrontation. It was the first day, so it was required for all the freshmen to meet in the auditorium for the obligatory welcome to high school speech. The student populous were pushed through the doors like a meat grinder. The pretty and popular seemed untouched, but nobodies, like Duke, were thrown around like ragdolls in the crowd. Once through the mess that was just the entrance, Duke sat towards the back to avoid talking to others. Another girl sat down next to her, smoking. Looking at her, the girl smirked, and went back to smoking her weed. Duke tried to ignore her, but she was the only one back there. She watched the girl talk nonsense instead of paying attention like the good student she was.

"What if this is just a dream and we'll just wake up in our real lives tomorrow?" the girl suddenly turned to Heather.
"Well umm... I would be pretty glad if I was honest." Duke shrugged. This place would probably be a living hell from what she's seen.
"I hope there's more weed on the other side," the girl finished and went on a completely different tangent. Duke couldn't get the conversation out of her head for the rest of the day. Was there something more subconscious that made her responsed the way she did? Did she hate her own life that much? The truth she couldn't admit was that being alone wasn't what she really wanted out of life. The first day was easier than most people tell you it will. Heather got her schedule, went and met teachers to get agendas for each class, and walked home. Nothing interesting except the conversation from earlier.

°~•Focus Chandler•~

Heather Chandler rolled out of bed that morning and took off her sleep mask. She got changed into the outfit that matched what her best friend would be wearing. Her parents had already left for work like every morning. Chandler only every saw her parents at dinner, and then they would go their separate ways once again. Once her hair was tamed into her signature red scrunchie, she slowly made her way downstairs. Her mother left her a piece of toast and some scrambled eggs. By now they were cold, so Heather quickly put them in the microwave for a few seconds.

She walked to school. She walked the entire four miles to school in her heels. Riding the bus was the worst so she opted to walk. They would just have orientation today anyhow, so she wouldn't be on her feet that much. By time she got to school, everything ached, but she kept a smile because McNamara was waiting for her by the entrance.

"Good morning!" McNamara greeted her cheerfully.
"Morning," Chandler responded with a yawn.
"I got you some coffee from the cafe down the street." McNamara handed the cup over to the caffeine goblin in front of her. Chandler quickly took a sip.
"You are my savior!" She had a big smile on her face. Coffee was what got her through the bad days.
"Oh I know." McNamara giggled in response. The two walked into the school drinking their coffees and talking of Summer vacation or how school was going to be great.

Once they made it to the auditorium, they took seats toward the front so they could be later leaving the auditorium. Getting agendas would be tiring for the both of them. New school, new classes to find, but first they had to make it threw orientation. McNamara chose to pay attention, so Chandler had to as well. It wasn't like there was anyone to talk to beside her friend, and she didn't want to disturb her. The speech was the run of the mill "Welcome, were glad you're here. If you feel uncomfortable, go to your counselor because we care." 'Bullshit' Chandler thought. Each counselor has about 700 students. They couldn't possibly care for each and every one of them.

The speech ended, and students started to spill out of the auditorium into the halls. Chandler and McNamara hung back to talk.
"So what elective are you taking 'cause I'm taking choir?" McNamara inquired.
"I'm taking acting. Easy A." Chandler scoffed. She didn't think electives were any helpful, so she didn't understand why they were required for graduation. The duo had decided to get their electives over with the first year, so they wouldn't have to deal with them the rest of highschool.

The rest of the day flew by. Chandler was worried that she would have to walk home, but Mrs. McNamara offered to drive so the girls could hangout after school.
