Silvi had to admit that Susan was very pleasing to the eye. She wasn't extraordinarily beautiful, but she was the type of person that you would glance twice at. She had soft brown hair and dark blue eyes; blue eyes that were filled with sadness.

Mason sat in front of Susan, quiet and solemn. The air was tense, and for a long time no one spoke.

As if finally deciding to break the ice, Mason asked, "Why did you come back here?"

Susan winced, "I wanted to apologize."

Mason was silent for a moment before he replied, "I don't want your apology."

"Mason, I know you're mad at me," Susan took a deep breath, "And you have every right to be...but I just wanted to-"

"I don't care." Mason said harshly.

"I didn't mean for things to turn out this way," Susan said tearfully, "It's just-" Susan took a deep breath as she blinked away her tears, "My family can be so controlling and I just.... I just.."

"That doesn't change the fact that you played with my feelings!" Mason exclaimed sorrowfully.

"I wasn't trying to! I just-" Susan exclaimed. "I'm sorry Mason."

Taking a deep breath, Mason forced back the oncoming tears and said, "I think it would be best for both of us if you left."

"Maybe it would be," Susan conceded tiredly. "I'm sorry Mason, I really am."

Mason turned his head and didn't reply.

As Silvi watched the two of them argue, she managed to put all the pieces of the puzzle together. She now had a basic idea as to why their relationship failed. When Silvi had entered the world, she had only read Mason's data, so she didn't know what was going on in Susan's life, but now she had an idea.

After Susan left, Silvi jumped off the bed and went to Mason where she laid on his lap.

When she received no response from Mason, she meowed softly and licked his hand, successfully managing to draw his attention.

Giving her a tearful smile, Mason gently rubbed her head, "Are you trying to cheer me up?"

Nodding her head slightly, she gave another soft meow and licked his hand again.

"Thank you, but I don't think I'll be able to be cheerful for quite some time." Mason said with a soft, forced laugh and as if triggered by his laugh, tears began to fall.

Silvi felt a bit hopeless, she didn't know what to do to cheer him up. She briefly thought of telling him a few jokes she had heard from her sister, but then she remembered that she couldn't talk. She was beginning to wonder if choosing a cat was the correct approach, but then again she couldn't think of any other way to get close to him on short notice.

With a resigned sigh, Silvi sat on Mason's lap in silence as he continued to cry. She figured that since she was unable to verbally comfort him, the least she could do was keep him company.
