Senior year rolled around, and Cas had accepted that he and Dean would never be the same. They would occasionally grab lunch, or walk to class together, but nothing like before. He made other friends, but spent most of his time alone. He didn't really mind, though. He knew they'd be leaving for college soon, anyways.
Dean had settled on a school thousands of miles away from Cas, just as he once feared would happen. Cas knew the minute that Dean left, that'd be it.
cas: hey dean, i'm leaving for school on friday and i wanna say goodbye before i go
dean: ok i can meet u for dinner tonight
cas: sounds good see u then
Cas had thought about this day for years and years. The day he leaves his best friend for good. He couldn't believe it was actually happening. "So, um, this is it I guess? Time really flew by."
"Ya, it did." Cas tried his best to keep it together, knowing Dean wouldn't even shed one tear. "I'm gonna miss you, Dean."
"Oh, Cas. You always were so emotional. But I'll miss you, too. You're gonna make new friends though. Trust me you won't even remember my name in a few weeks." Cas knew this wasn't true. He could never forget Dean. Ever.
"Hey, I wrote you a letter," Cas said pulling an envelope out of his pocket. His poor, shaking hands handed it to Dean. "Thanks, bud. Well I better get going. Good luck in school. Take care of yourself."
Dean pulled him into their first hug in months. The familiar touch made Cas loose it. He missed this so much. "Cas, are you crying?"
"I'm sorry, I can't help it." He never wanted to let go. "Goodbye, Cas." He couldn't even bring himself to say goodbye, so he simply waved, watching his whole world walk away.

Dear Dean,
I can't believe the day has come where we go our separate ways. I remember talking about this when we were just ten years old. Of course then we promised each other we'd go to the same school and stay best friends for as long as we both live. I guess things are different now. Dean, I don't know what I would've done without you. I'm sorry you always had to deal with my problems. I can't thank you enough for being there. I honestly wouldn't be here today without you. I don't know what happened to us along the way, but I never stopped considering you my best friend for a second. No matter how far away I am or how old we get, I will always be here for you. I love you, Dean.
your best friend, Cas
