Chapter 3

The walk through the cave is (luckily) uneventful on the way back and we reach the beach with an hour to spare.

"Ok, I'm going to collect some driftwood for the bonfire, I'm hoping the flames will be blue, I'll be back in fifteen." Liam says to me, before heading over in the direction of the rock pools.

I step back into my tangerine coverup, tie it up and pull my phone out of my bag.

Hey Hannah! Woah the big 18, EEK! I'm going to the shops now to get the food for your gathering! See you at 6.30 to set up,

Luv Leylanie:)

Looking forward to your party! Is it ok if I bring some more people with me? Cause my boyfriend and some of his friends want to come, they're keen on a bonfire gathering?

xx Chayanne

I text a quick reply to Leylanie thanking her and then one to Chayanne, letting her know that I'm fine with more people coming and the more the merrier.

Then I park myself on the sand and think.

And ponder.

And think some more.

How could a bleeding wound be all but a scar in less than ten minutes? It just doesn't make sense.

Sure, it was strange, but then again that cave was a creepy place, if Liam hadn't been there the wound would probably have gotten worse and I could have died...In some ways that makes the legends true.

I slowly trace my finger up and down the white line, feeling the smooth shiny surface, it looks strange on my tanned leg.

Lima returns a few minutes later with his arms full of driftwood, he sets it down and comes to sit next to me on the sand.

"Thinking about your leg?" He asks.

I shrug, "I suppose. Doesn't matter now, let's get this bonfire built."

He nods, "If you say so."

The two of us get up and begin to arrange the wood into a stack. Then I step back and watch as Liam starts a flame on some dried twigs, before placing them in the fire and coaxing a blue and green flam from the salty wood.

"Nice job." I grin as the flames dance in the fading light.

"Thanks! Ahh...This has been a great day for the weather, how long till the others get here?" He replies, running a hand through his tousled hair as we both admire our handy work.

I check my phone, "Um, about five minutes. Shall we grab some logs to sit on while we wait?"

"Sounds like a plan, when I was getting the driftwood I spotted a few good ones over by the domain." He replies.

"Awesome! Righty, lets got get them then." I reply placing my phone in the pocket of my coverup and following him over to the domain.

We find a few good logs and haul them down to the flickering bonfire, and as we put down the last log I hear a familiar voice ring out across the beach.

"Hannah! Oh my gosh, happy birthday, I've got all the food, wow you look beautiful! Where do you want me to put it?" Leylanie yells in a constant stream as she bundles into me, almost knocking me over.

She looks adorable in a sea green sundress, perfectly coloured to compliment her straight brown hair. We've been friends since preschool and she's the fastest talker ever.
