A very close call

Chapter 1

This takes place near the end of free rein Valentine's Day

Zoe's POV
I looked up at the shaking Callum and so many thoughts ran through my head at once. He was in shock and there was no way he could hold the spade in place until the police got here.

"Guys What are we going to do. We can't just leave him there." Gaby spoke up looking around the group. I could tell based off of the eye roll Suzie gave she was considering just riding off on Darcy.

The group began bickering back and forth over what to do but I already knew. This was my fault. I wanted to find the maid stone so now I deserve to pay the price for that. I scanned the group for a second realising how lucky I am to have them in my life. Finally, my eyes landed on Pin and the tops of my lips curled for a second.

How lucky was I to have someone like him. I have had boyfriends in the past but I knew Pin genuinely cared about me and that was what made him who he was. Peter Hawthorne, Duke of this small island off the coast of England.

"Guys!" I eventually called, silencing the group. "I know what I have to do..." they froze and I took that as my cue to go. I hadn't taken any more than 3 steps before Pin grabbed my arm.

"Zoe I don't know what you are thinking but stop thinking it, ok?!" His eyes clouded as he came close to tears at the state of the situation. I looked at him and shook my head.
"This is my fault. I came up with the idea to look for the stone. I encouraged you and Marcus to come along. I am the reason Callum could die so I need to be the one to save him."

His eyes searched my own as if he was trying to read my mind to see what my plan was. He opened his mouth to speak but I placed the palm of my hand on his cheek drawing soothing circles, whilst he leaned into my touch.

I couldn't stand saying much without crying so managed to get out 3 short words before leaping onto Raven.

"I love you..."

I rode off on Raven towards Callum. Pin screaming my name from behind followed by "Hey get off me!!" I peered around to see him being held back by Marcus and Alex as he tried to follow me.

I stopped next to Callum and my mind didn't really register what he was saying. My mind tuned in on one fact. If Raven was to run fast enough to get out of here then he could only carry one person. I jumped off of Raven preparing myself to run as soon as Callum got on Raven... I knew he couldn't be the one to run cause he was in shock and fear of the situation.

"Ready 3...2...1"

He dropped the spade and wildly jumped onto Raven and taking the reins once he was in the saddle I sprinted, encouraging Raven to do the same. He flew past me and from the corner of my eye I could see pony squad, Mia, Suzie,Alex, Marcus and... Pin. Screaming my name. Raven was well ahead and I allowed my self to slow down knowing I had saved Callum and what was about to happen.

Bang!!!!

People normally say that when something like this happens you see your life flash before your eyes. That wasn't what I saw at all. I saw the sand coming closer to my face as I flew through the air then I caught onto the searing pain flowing through my left leg as the sand caught up with me. Lying on the floor in shock, I groaned as I moved slightly in the direction of which I could hear footsteps thundering along.

My vision swam slightly but through the dizziness I could make out somebody falling to their knees beside me. "Zoe..." the persons voice trailed off but the voice itself gave me comfort, made me feel safe. That could only mean.... "Pin". Me voice sounded more weak and frightened than intended but I didn't know what was going to happen now and that really frightened me.

Gabi was the next person by my side but she is like my sister so I wasn't surprised she had sprinted at the speed she had. Like Pin she grabbed one of my hands and gave it a gentle squeeze in the hope of providing comfort.

Jade spoke up next. "Guys she is loosing a lot of blood through the gash on her leg we need to help her right now." So that was why my leg hurt so much. Although I wasn't prepared for the assault of pain that flowed through my veins as pressure was applied to the wound.

"Aaahhh!!" I could feel Pin flinch at the sound and afterwards he leaned down to press his forehead against my own whispering soft words into my ear.
"It really hurts." I whimpered and that was followed by a comforting "I know,I know."

Gabi squeezed my hand again as Jade finished wrapping a bandage around my leg. I swear that girl plans for every imaginable situation.

"We need to get her back to the stables so we can treat it properly. We can't do anything here and someone has to stay here for when the police arrive."

"I'll take her back" Pin said without a momentary delay. Gabi said that she would come with as they were both some of the best riders. Jade went to ring a paramedic for when I got back to Brightfields and the others agreed to stay for when the police got here.

Pin mounted onto Elvis and Gabi, Raven as he was fast and could freak out if I wasn't with him. Marcus picked me up off the floor bridal style and passed me up to Pin. I winced at the movement.

"Sorry Zo." I couldn't help the small smile that ghosted across my features.  I always did love when he called my Zo. It seemed to so effortlessly roll of his tongue like it was natural to him and that made me happy. Pin was known for being a quiet mystery but I think since we got together he has started to become more comfortable around not only me but the others too. That made me happy.

Before I knew it Pin eased Elvis into a canter and I saw Gabi mimic his actions as we headed off towards the stables...
