~Once you realize you can do anything, you're free. You're not afraid anymore. Nobody can touch you.. Nobody. You can fly. ~Henry (The Good Son 1993)
"Wake up!" Paul said to his twin brother Darren. "It's the first day of school!"
He wouldn't move, just kept on snoring lightly. Paul continued to move him around, until he finally woke up.
"What is it? What do you want from me?" He answered. His voice was sleepy, his hair was messy and annoyance was clear in his eyes.
"Oh come on! It's the first day of school and mom told me to wake you up. Lighten up!" His brother said cheerfully.
"Okay... Sorry.." Darren muttered. "I'll be downstairs in a few."
Darren got ready and went to their kitchen. His mother was waiting for him, so was Paul. There was a worried/sad expression on her face. She sighed and then started to speak:
"Since you're dad has left us, the money I've been making at work isn't enough for all of us. So I'm sorry, but we are going to have to cut down on a few things. The grocery bill was too big , so I didn't get any stuff to make lunch for you to take to school everyday. I'm sorry boys."
"Mom, you know we don't mind. Dad told us what we were supposed to do always in our life. He told us to cherish family, to honor family, to not let anyone ever get in the way of a family and to always and I mean always remember that family comes first. So we'll stick together no matter what happens!" Darren answered positively.
"Yes." Paul agreed and smiled.
Their mum, Courtney looked worried and nauseous, but she nodded her head.
There was an awkward silence for about 10 minutes, until Courtney broke the silence. "Go on, get to school now, or else you'll be late!"
The boys said their goodbyes, got their backpacks and headed towards their high school.
At school:
The boys arrived at school. They used to have a bunch of friends, but after people in that small town heard that their father left, they were pushed away by everyone. Just at the minute that they got to their lockers. The bell rang.
"I'm going to class. Are you coming?" Paul asked.
"No I think I'll skip. Darren answered. "I just want to sit out here for a bit."
"Ok. I'm leaving." His brother said and with that he walked away.
Darren walked to his favorite oak tree. He sat underneath it and closed his eyes. A small breeze was blowing threw his hair and there was silence. It was peaceful. The sun was shinning on his skin. He didn't mind, he liked it. But more than that he liked the quiet surroundings. Suddenly he heard a sound it was like flipping pages. He opened his eyes and turned to the place where the sound was coming from, the bench behind him. He turned to see a girl reading, a beautiful girl. She had brown hair. Half of it was in a ponytail and half of it was down. Her hair was curled perfectly. Her brown eyes were shinning, as she was reading her book. She was wearing a floral dress and white flats. Very different clothing from the girls at the school. They all wore very revealing clothing. Darren and Paul hated revealing clothing. He was snapped out of his thoughts, when the girl spoke to him:
"Why are you staring at me?" Her tone wasn't angry, it was calm and her voice was sweet.
"Oh. Um.. I'm sorry..." Darren answered nervously and turned around.
"I didn't say that you had to turn around." She said in the same tone as last time. "What's your name?"
"Darren. What's yours?"
"Carlotta. I'm new here."
