Present day, New Year's Eve
Key West, Florida

"Cairo! Earth to Cai-RRROOO!" Wynnie snapped her fingers in his face. But momentarily, Cairo is not here. He randomly grabs her hand that was waving in his face.

"What Wynnie?" his voice was still light, floaty even.

"I said what did you want for breakfast today?" she snatches her hand away. Wynnie walked away from the stove.

"Whatever you having is cool with me." He still wasn't here. Wynnie nodded and added more.

"What were you thinking about?" she turned to him expecting an answer.

"You." He says simply. Wynnie rolls her eyes, knowing it was a lie. He was too far gone but she didn't say anything about it.

"I think I want to spend New Year's Eve with my nephews." She spoke randomly.

"Why not with me?" Cairo pretended to be hurt.

"I mean you cool or whatever but Apollo is cuter." Wynnie dragged him. He couldn't help but laugh for a moment.

"But I planned for us to go parachuting later...and deep sea diving."

"I can't swim Cairo." Wynnie didn't turn from the stove but fixed her plate, and then his. "And you need to learn to sit down. Always looking for that next adrenaline rush."

"That's me though baby girl. That might not change." He admits. She nods her head. "You can't fight me for wanting you all to myself when I'm not going to see you until May."

"You're not coming to Michigan at all?" Wynnie sits down with a frown. "Why?" she didn't even hide her displeasure as she normally would.

"I'm not tryna distract you. Getting clean water to Flint is important and I think you can do it." Cairo was honest. He knew Wynnie was going to solve that problem with the resources his family has.

"Still...not at all?" she didn't care about what he just said at all.

"I'm still in school at Golden Oak..." he reminds her. Wednesday rolls her eyes and doesn't say much the rest of the breakfast. She grabbed her plate and washed the dishes once she was done eating and went to the farther side of the two-room cabin.

Cairo thought her sudden attitude was cute. Everything about her sudden mood changes were cute to him. But, he needed her to go with him on the adventure for today. And, he'd already planned for them to go back to Alex and Sunday's mansion. His family had already gone back to Michigan. But that wasn't the reason why he'd held her away for so long. He just wanted to be with her, uninterrupted. Cairo was selfish but not as selfish as his brother and cousins. But Wynnie was for him. He knew it.

"You can be mad in the plane while we ride to the jumping point." He threw a backpack at her.

"I'm not going on yo funky ass plane trip thing." She mumbled stubbornly. Cairo was annoyed now.

"Wednesday Amor Perriloux, get yo ass up and get dressed. We going on this trip." Cairo's voice held bass for the first time. And he just used the government. Yes daddy, Wynnie thought but moved slow.

"I'm not playing with yo ass Wynnie!" he yelled in the room they were sharing. Oh he serious, she thought, grabbing the bag with clothes on.

The pair were in the plane flying over the Key West skyline to the jumping point. Wynnie kept her arms folded like she was mad. Only because she liked Cairo's business voice. He stayed in nice mode a lot but it was refreshing seeing that "other" side of him. Sis brave, but I'ma let her be great.
