"Amelia, wake up! You're going to be late for school!"
My mom's version of late is half an hour early. "Mom, I still have 30 minutes to sleep!" I groan and pull the cover over my head. I knew she wouldn't let me, but it was worth a shot.
"Amelia, get your ass out of bed before I make you get out of bed!" I groaned and got out of bed because I knew it was only a matter of time before she came upstairs to get me out of bed. I may be 18 but that won't stop my mom from beating my ass.
"Fine! I'm up!" I yelled out my door. "Good. Hurry and get ready. I have coffee made already." My mom knows I love coffee and I do not like my coffee to get cold.
I dreaded going to school, especially because I only have one more week until graduation. I was so happy to graduate and leave Glover Park High. High School was a great experience but I just felt like I did not belong with this tide pod eating generation. After I got done showering I threw on a pair of leggings and a hoodie with my hair in a messy bun. This was my usual school attire because I am not and never will be a morning person. Plus, there was literally no one to impress.
I make my way downstairs to find my mom engrossed in a book at the kitchen table. My mom and I were alike in so many ways, yet we looked like polar opposites. Where I was dark, she was light. I was a deep, warm brown with hazel eyes and unruly dark curly hair ; while my mom was a radiant gold with the most beautiful brown curls and dark brown eyes. I've never seen my dad but I assume I must look like him because I looked nothing like my mom.
After I drank my coffee, mom dropped me off to school and I had to remind her that I was going straight to Jordan's after school. Jordan has been my best friend since she moved to Washington in the 7th grade. She was set on not making friends because she moved around a lot. I felt an instant pull to her so I elegantly forced my way into her life.
Tonight there was a party to celebrate the end of the school year and Jordan convinced me to go. I wasn't an extreme introvert but I spent as little time with people as I could. As soon as I walked into school I saw Jordan waiting at my locker.
She looked at me with her devilish grin and said "I'm so glad you're coming with me tonight! What are you wearing? I don't see an extra bag? Oh and did you tell Ms. Lisa you were staying over? " She looks inside my bag and gives me an evil stare. "Yes, I told her and I just planned on wearing this and fixing up my hair." I told her. Jordan looks at me like I said something that offended her.
"Oh no! You will not be going to any party with me looking like that! You can pull almost anything off honey, but you are not wearing leggings and an over-sized hoodie to your LAST high school party"
"So what do you suggest I wear Jo?" She gives her most innocent smile and says "We'll find something in my closet." I roll my eyes because even though we're the same size, Jordan likes to wear tight clothing. Me on the other hand, I love baggy, over-sized clothing. "Fine, whatever. Just don't have me out here looking like I'm getting ready to go sell some ass!"
She puts her hand on her chest and feigns to be hurt. "Wow. I can't believe you would think so low of me." I laugh and shake my head. "Whatever, let's get to class."
Much to my dismay, the day goes by pretty quickly. As we walk out of the building we see all of the cheerleaders. The head cheerleader, Emily, spots us and says "Well if it isn't the loser sisters, Venus and Serena."
Jordan and I look so much alike that everyone thought we were sisters when she first moved here. We were also the top 2 female athletes so Emily was trying to insult us by calling us Venus and Serena. But seriously, how is that an insult?
"Aw, Emily. Don't you think we're getting a little too old for you to still be jealous of us? I mean, I know we're amazing but damn, not everyone can be flawless like us." I mock flick my hair over my shoulder and wink at the now angry cheerleader. I may be an introvert but I don't take shit from anyone. Jordan laughs and gives Emily the middle finger as we walk away.
