"Come sit down, Andre! We made room for you at the table, so you can sit next to me or Monika" Sayori says. He has the chance to sit next to either me or Sayori, without thinking, I kind of want him to sit next to me.
"I'll get the cupcakes-" She adds.
"Hey! I made the cupcakes so I'll get them!" Natsuki barks at her.
"Sorry, I got a little too excited-" Sayori says.
"Then how about I make some tea as well?" Yuri implies
Yuri goes into the back closet where her kettle is and Natsuki is on her way grabbing the cupcakes on her wrapped tray. We have a few desk arranged that make a table and I'm sitting on the far end with one seat next to me.
Andre, looking around the room to find a seat, walks around the room and sits in the desk next to Sayori. I look at the ground in disappointment.
Natsuki brings over the cupcakes with excitement in her step.
"Okaaay, are you ready?" She exclaims. "Ta-daaa!"
She reveals the cupcakes.
Sayori glances at the cupcakes in awe and makes a highly questionable sound about them: "Uwoooooah"
There are a dozen chocolate cupcakes with fluffy white frosting made to look like little cats, made with extra icing and tiny pieces of chocolate.
"So cuuuuuuute-" Sayori exclaims in spite of the cupcakes.
"I had no idea you were so good at baking Natsuki!" I say to her.
She laughs
"Well, you know" She says. She doesn't say anything else about it, "Just hurry and take one!"
Sayori dashingly grabs a cupcake. I grab one after her, so does Andre.
Sayori takes a bite, "It's delicious!" She exclaims as she's eating it.
Natsuki stays silent. She keeps looking at Andre.
He takes a bite of it. "This is really good." He tells her. "Thank you, Natsuki."
"W-Why are you thanking me?" Natsuki blushes than says, "It's not like I-" She stutters "Made them for you or anything."
I feel a hint of anger. Does she love him? No. I can't keep thinking like that. She's obviously too aggressive to him to.
"Eh? I thought you technically did. Sayori said-" Andre says to her. Natsuki cuts him off
"Well, maybe!" She practically yells. Her face is even more red now. That hint of anger gets stronger.
"But not for, y-you know, you! Dummy." She adds. Why is she so mad at him?
"Alright, alright" Andre says, trying to calm her down. They don't say anything else.
Yuri comes back to the table with her tea set. She places tea cups each in front of us then sets down the tea pot.
"You keep a whole tea set in this classroom?" Andre asks Yuri in surprise.
"Don't worry, the teachers gave us permission." She assures him. "After all, doesn't a hot cup of tea help you enjoy a good book?"
"Ah..I-I guess" Andre guesses. It looks like he's never read in his life.
I let myself in their conversation "Don't let yourself get intimidated, Yuri's just trying to impress you."
Yuri gets startled. "Eh?! T-That's not-"
Yuri turns her head away from us. "I mean that, you know-" She continues
"I believe you." Andre says to her. "Well, tea and reading might not be a pastime for me, but at least I enjoy tea." Why is he saying that to her? He probably doesn't even like tea! No, no, calm down Monika, I say to myself.
"I'm glad.." Yuri adds. I'm clearly now the third wheel in this conversation. Yuri faintly smiles to herself. Why?
I raise an eyebrow at the exchange and smile at him. Yuri steps away.
"So, what made you consider the literature club?" I ask him.
He looks at the floor, "Um.." He sighs "Well, I haven't joined any clubs yet, and Sayori seemed really happy here, so.." His voice trails off. It's really cute how he doesn't know what to say.
"That's okay! Don't be embarrassed!" I assure him. The moment brings me momentariel happiness. "We'll make sure you feel right at home, okay? As president of the literature club," I continue, "It's my duty to make the club fun and exciting for everyone!"
"Monika, I'm surprised" He says, "How come you decided to start your own club? You could probably be a board member for any of the major clubs. Weren't you the leader of the debate club last year?"
That's an age old question by now. I laugh at it, "Well, you know," I say, looking at his shiny brown eyes, "To be honest, I can't stand all of the politics around the major clubs. It feels like nothing but arguing about the budget and publicity and how to prepare for events. I'd rather take something I personally enjoy and make something special out of it. And if it encourages others to get into literature, then I'm fulfilling that dream!"
"Monika really is a great leader!" Sayori says, coming nearly out of the blue. Yuri nods in agreement.
"Then I'm surprised there aren't more people in the club yet." Andre says.
I smile. What did I do to deserve this? They all love me and support me. Including him.
