Families forced out of their homes is a tragedy that's most common. Hundreds of families every year face the hardships of having to start all over in a new area. For some it comes naturally for others, they grieve for days on end. Leaving a life behind with only moments to pack, What would make the cut? What would be left behind?
Luna and her sister, Mer, were the only ones in the house that day. The day everything changed, First a loud bang from the door. The hinges were torn off the wall as the door came crashing in. Monstrous men stormed into the house from all directions "You have exactly 10 minutes to pack your belongings then out to the van! Move it!!" They couldn't fathom what we had just heard. Luna was yanked out of her trance by the realization time was running out. Fear, sadness, confusion, were just some of the many emotions running through her being. Her feet carried her weight up the stairs she quickly grabbed a suitcase from the closet and set it on the bed. Luna's eyes ran over the room she's lived in for years, could the most important things be packed in less than 10 minutes?
Luna POV:
Seconds ticked by as her eyes stared into the empty case. Luna's mind was racing, she zoomed to her closet and grabbed some clothes. It was Fall, so long sleeves were needed. After they were folded and packed she went to the memory filled bookshelf in the corner. Books, photos, small toy dolls, A trickle of tears streamed down her cheeks as her fingertips brushed over what would soon be forgotten. "Would anyone remember? Would they remember me? My life? My adventures?" The words were soft whispers, she sniffled and went to grab her favorite 3 books from the shelf. She packed them in the suitcase and rushed to the bathroom for the necessities. After they were packed a voice yelled from
downstairs "4 more minutes!" It was the man from before. Luna's lungs gasped for air as she glanced around the room again. So many memories, so little time! Next, an album of family photos were placed into the case. Lastly was chargers, computer, and her phone.
Mer had only finished moments before, Luna followed behind Mer as they trudged down the stairs that were shorter than she last remembered. Slowly they made their way back to the Monstrous men, they had sicking grins plastered on their faces as the frightened girl inched forward into to the living space. "Move it!" The shell of a man pointed a finger towards the door and growled lowly "I will not tell you again." Luna's fingers clasped around her sister's wrist as she pulled her out the door.
The neighborhood was filled with black vans, Families all around were being pushed into them. A defining bang from a gun caught Luna's attention shortly after a blood-curdling scream. Her head swiveled in the direction of the commotion. Horror filled her eyes as she saw Fern, her best friend, lying dead on the ground. His mother draped herself over his stiff body as he bled out. Her cries were heard for miles. Luna couldn't breathe, was there even air to inhale? Moments passed before she could find her voice again, a desperate cry of dread croaked from the pits of her throat. Luna's vision became blurry and cloudy as tears spilled from her eyes. The van was close, the door swung open and terrified girl were shoved in. A cloth covered Luna's mouth and nose, She tried desperately to break free from her attacker but to no avail. Her hand desperately reached out for her sister as everything went black, then there was nothing. All because they didn't believe and were different.
