The sun was blinding as I pulled my Nimbus 1700 upwards, soaring towards the clouds. The whistling sound as I sliced through the wind rung in my ears and I grinned, loving the feel of it.
"Cass!"
A figure came flying beside me and I swooped around it, twisting inwards and outwards, laughing at how high I was. Then, I suddenly swerved and began flying downwards. As I hurtled towards the ground, I lifted upwards and skidded to a stop.
"Cass! That was too reckless!"
I rolled my eyes and turned to the Keeper.
"Keep your socks on, Wood. I was perfectly safe," I said.
The boy shook his head, his dark hair flopping as he did so.
"You shouldn't take the risks," he scolded.
"Look, why are you getting all uptight and finickity about it before the Captain?" I asked, turning around. The Keeper towered above me and looked down.
"I'm just worried about what we'll do if we lose the reserve Seeker on our team," he said.
"It's not like I'll ever get to play with Charlie still on the team," I retorted. "No offence, Captain," I said, catching the red-head's eye. "Besides, if it's so dangerous then why did you chase after me?"
Oliver huffed and threw his arms up in the air. "There is just no getting you to see reason."
"No," I began, "you just suck at reasoning."
"Yeah, Wood!" one of the Weasley twins cried, the two of them laughing.
Oliver shook his head is despair. "Fine! Go out and get injured! I won't care!" He picked up his broom and walked towards the showers.
"He's just worried about you, Cassandra," Charlie said.
"I don't need to be coddled by him at school; I get that enough back at home," I replied, thinking back to my doting family. Being the only girl in a household full of sons, my brothers played the overbearing protector role with great seriousness.
"Well, don't be too hard to the boy. He's just trying to help."
I sighed, feeling slightly bad, and picked up my broom before retreating to the girl's showers. Inside, Katie Bell and Angelina Johnson were gossiping about the boys.
"Are you serious? Oliver Wood?" Katie laughed. My ears pricked up at the mention of his name. "He's pretty attractive, yeah, but he seems like he'd be too much for me."
"Well, his attitude is quite charming," Angelina replied. Really? His mother-like personality was attractive? "A guy in-tune with his feminine side is something rare these days." I snorted.
"In-tune or just annoying, I have yet to figure out," I said, joining in the conversation.
"Well, it seems Oliver is interested in you," Angelina winked. I grimaced.
"Please, don't say that," I said. "That's kind of...disgusting."
"Now, that's just harsh. What's he ever done to get such a reaction from you?"
"He's always on my case; don't add that in there yet you idiot, don't fly too far away or you'll never catch the snitch, why did you write that down in your test? Now you've got it wrong, blah blah blah," I mimicked.
"He's just being nice. I think he's using it up as a cover-up to hide his feelings, just my two cents," Angelina mused. I paused to think as I stripped from my Quidditch robes; perhaps she was right.
