Once school was over, I tried desperately to sneak past my mom. I was almost free when she caught me.
"Wait a minute, young lady. I want to talk to you."
I turned around, the most 'buzz off' look on my face.
"Rebecca,"
Rebecca, I'm in trouble...
"Rebecca, I do not appreciate you being rude to me—"
"I don't appreciate you telling me I can't see my friend!" Where'd that come from? I've never talked back!
"Rebecca, he just—"
"He what, Mom? He what? He's kind, he's thoughtful, he's-he's mature—"
"No, that's where you're wrong. He's not mature. He can't drive worth a lick, he doesn't have the best table manners—"
"So what? He's not that great of a driver. He's only been driving for, like..... three... months! By himself! So he didn't have the best table manners. Neither does Helen, but you love Helen!"
"Rebe—"
"Why don't you like Jesse? It's cause he's a boy, right? And rides a motorcycle, right? And wears leather and tight jeans, right? Why can't you like him? I don't understand. You liked Brian, and he was a scum bucket!! He had no respect for you, or our family! Jesse respects us! He likes us! He's a very nice boy! But you don't like him cause he's a rebel, right?!"
"Rebecca Lori Donaldson, sit down right now!"
Angrily, I sat down. I knew I was in big trouble. She only used my full name if I really had it coming to me.
"Look! You will not argue with me about this! I am your mother! Whatever I say goes!"
"Then I'll talk to Daddy! He's head of the house!" I got up, angrily hobbled to the barn, catching my Dad just in time.
"Dad!!"
"What is it, pun'kin?"
"Dad, remember that friend I introduced you to?"
"Which one? I know a lot of your friends."
"The tall one? With beautiful black hair and glassy grey-blue eyes?"
"Black hair and grey blue eyes? Nope, can't say I remember him."
"Well.... if I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure you liked him..."
"So what's your point?"
"Can I—"
"Ken!!" My Mom shouted as she came running (sorta) up to us.
Dog gone it!
"Ken, she's trying to ask you if she could see the hoodlum she had over Saturday, even though you and I had already said no."
"Rebecca, were you trying to go against our word?"
I looked down at the floor and mumbled something.
"Rebecca Lori?"
"No! I was just trying to get you to see that he's not a bad person."
"We think he is."
"But Dad!"
"No buts."
I had to think fast! This was my last chance. "But Dad!!" I'm a genius! Not!!
"Rebecca Lori Donaldson! I don't want to hear another word about him. Now or ever! Do you understand me?"
"Yes..."
"Rebecca?!"
"Yes sir!!" I said angrily. I stormed away the best I could.
"Hold it, young lady! We're not finished yet." Mom called after me.
"What?!"
"Your punishment has been extended by a week."
"But Mom!"
"You'll also not be allowed to leave your room; only for meals and school."
Feeling like a, to not use a bad word, female dog, I retorted. "Not even to go to the bathroom?"
"Fine. Three weeks of no horses, no friends, no mall, no anything! Nothing that you like!"
"Sooooo..." once again, female dog. "No school?"
"REBECCA LORI DONALDSON!!" My parents shouted very loudly.
"Fine!! I'll have no life or pleasure or anything!!" I angrily stomped, as best I could, back to the house and up to my room. Naturally, I was already crying. By the time I got to my room, my hot, angry tears were falling by the bucket full.
I thought awful, awful, awful things about my parents. And I didn't mean a single one of them...
