FLASHBACK TO 2011

Emily's POV

"Mrs. Thorne are you ready for the surgery?"

I looked up at the doctor and slowly nodded. She and another nurse wheeled my bed, along with my 2 IV's, out into the long hallways and right through the doors that said, 'operating room 12'.

The doctor looked down at me and said, "I am so sorry about your babies Mrs. Thorne. But you understand that this needs to be done. Right?" I nodded again as if on cue not really knowing what I was doing. I looked up and saw to the right of me a large glass window and a doctor with many college students, each holding clipboards. "They," the nurse said pointing to the group of people. "-are observing your surgery today. This has only happened a few times and so the doctor wants his class to experience first hand, a surgery such as yours." The nurses made my bed straight in the middle of the room and fixed their doctoring tools on a stand next to me. A man, whom I'm assuming is the head doctor who is performing my surgery, put his mask on and said, "Put her out." The assistant doctor to my right pulled a mask off a machine and held it over my nose. "Mrs. Thorne, I need you to count from 10 backwards."

"10,9...8....7..." and the last thing I saw before my eyes closed was the doctor holding a sharp tool to my stomach.

In the glass room above Emily

"Class I want you to observe the patient's abdomen and its size. How far along do you think she is?"

"Three months...maybe even four?" Someone answered.

"Thirteen and a half weeks to be exact. How far along do you think she was when she discovered her babies were killing her?"

"At the least 2 months and at the most 3." Another answered confidently.

"She was one day away from being exactly 10 weeks. She was found unresponsive, meaning not breathing and no pulse found, in her home by her childhood friend, Jack. He-"

"You need to know patients, friends' names?" Acurious one asked.

"Yes. If it is of importance. Anyway he called the ambulance. She found that her liver and kidneys had been shot; absolutely useless. All because of the babies. They were stealing her nutrients. Without knowing it she was mothering her own death. An-"

"And so because she kept on eating and her liver and kidney were no longer 'Good' the nutrients that the babies did not take the liver could not process leaving her with multiple infections in those organs and-"

"And-" the doctor cut the student off. "And, simply to say, she became terminal unless the babies were terminated and she gets a kidney and liver transplant. Now who thinks that she willingly made this decision?"

4 out of 15 people raised their hand. "So you, 15 people, why is she doing this then?"

"Because she had no option-"

"Or she was forced by a friend or relative."

The doctor nodded and continued, "She was told by her childhood frjend-"

"-Jack" said Someone.

"-Yes...Jack. She was told that he would rather have her alive and well than dead. And that she can always try for more kids later. After weeks, apparently seeing that she is now 13 and 1/2 weeks, she agreed with him. And here we are. Now observe and learn students."

"Forcepts."

"Forcepts." The assistant handed me the tool.
