(3rd person POV)

Jay and Cole made their way to their homeroom where they would take attendance and do leftover homework. Jay went unnoticed so Cole always said he lost his work and got extras for Jay.

Cole didn't mind. He would do anything for his best friend. Even if that meant breaking the rules.

Cole went to the windows and opened the one that Jay would climb through and sat in his seat next to Kai, behind Nya, and in front of Zane. All his closest friends.

As the teacher started calling out names for attendance Cole looked out to the window and sighed in relief when he saw that Jay was waiting for his signal. They have mastered this plan from the countless times they snuck Jay into class.

(Jay's POV)

I waited outside the window that Cole had opened for me. I was watching through the window and when I heard Cole's name called, he raised his hand and said "Here!"

Our signal

I very quietly lifted myself up onto the window sill and slipped through the window without a sound. I sat down next to Cole and beside the window for easy escapes, which we have never had to use yet.

(Cole's POV)

I raised my hand and Said "Here!" and I knew at that moment that Jay was sneaking through the window. I couldn't hear him or see him but I knew he was there. I felt a light tap on my shoulder and I turned  to face Kai.

"Cole" He whispered "What?" I said. "The Ninja Academy tryouts are today! Are you trying out?" The brunette looked hopeful. "Yeah. Are you?" He nods "I'll see you there." He says as he gets up to go to our first class.

"Hi!" I jump up  in my chair. "JAY! What have I told you about scaring me like that with your super ninja abilities!" Jay chuckles. "Sorry, it was just to easy" A smile starts to spread onto my face. "All right, forgiven. But if you make it into the academy you have to come and visit every holiday." "Deal!" He exclaims. "Cole! you coming!?" Kai shouts from across the room. "I'm on my way!" I sling my arm around my best friends arm and we make our way to the cafeteria where we can fuel up for tryouts.

(Kai's POV)

We were all sitting at our round lunch table in the lunch hall. We couldn't sit outside because it was raining. "Looks like the tryouts will be in the gym today. "Zane said "Unless it clears up" Nya added.

I see Cole enter with his arm around a small ginger haired boy with freckles. "Cole!" I shout. My voice is the loudest in the school, or in the world as my friends say. Cole hears me and and starts to come our way but the smaller boy holds him back and says something, to which Cole replies. I'm curious of what they are talking about but then again it's not my business.

I look up from my food only to see Cole standing behind me. "Where's your friend?" I ask.

(Jay's POV)

Cole slung his arm around my shoulders and we started to walk to the front doors where we would then head to the back alley to train and share Cole's lunch.

We were almost at the door when a teacher stopped us. He said that lunch would be indoors because it was raining. I was nervous. I never came to school on rainy days because I thought others would notice me in the lunch hall.

We turned around and headed in the direction of the cafeteria. Cole led because I didn't know the way. He pushed open the big double doors and I looked around curiously. I have never been in a cafeteria before. It was really simple, just long tables in rows and the occasional round table.

"Cole!" Someone shouted snapping me out of my thoughts. Cole spotted who called his name and started heading in that direction. I stopped him. "Cole." I whispered, "Your... friends, they-they don't know I exist. What if they find out that I don't go go to  school. I could get in trouble, or go to jail, or-" Cole cut me off "Jay!" he exclaimed" Don't worry, You'll be fine!" "How do you know that."I asked. "Just trust me." He replied already walking to the table. I followed behind him.

"Where's your friend?" I heard someone ask. I peered around Cole to see a tan boy with spiky brown hair and brown eyes. He was smiling at me, weird. I've never had that reaction before.

"Guys this is Jason Gordon" Cole explained, pulling me out from behind him. I heard hi's hey's and other greetings. "Jay is a friend of mine and he is just visiting." "How long will he stay for?"asked a kid with blonde hair and light skin and a white jacket. "He's moving and he's looking at schools." "So how do you like the school so far Jason?" A girl with raven hair in a short bob asked me. She was kinda pretty... No Jay keep focused!

"Ummm... It's okay I guess..." "Don't worry, you'll like it here!" She said.

They started asking questions and I eventually sat down and Cole snuck me his lunch and went to go some for himself. "Lay low." I heard the spiky haired kid say. They all stopped talking and laid low against the table. Cole slipped into his seat beside me. "Why are we quiet?" I whispered. "Seventh graders." he replied. I wondered what was so scary about them.

"Get up!" One of the seventh graders demanded.

Everyone at my table got up, except me. The older kids and my tablemates both looked at me like I was crazy... well, mostly my tablemates. "Get up!" he repeated. I guessed he was the leader of the small group.

"Why?" I asked. I knew why. He just wanted to prove he was better by bossing people around. "'Cause I said so!" He exclaimed. "And who are you?" "Hey Jason, let's get out of here." The blonde suggested. I ignored him and turned my attention back to the seventh grader. "Who am I? WHO AM I!?!" He shouted, "I am the boss around here, I'll tell you that!" "Funny, I thought the teachers were in charge here. Oh well everyone makes mistakes." I replied. He looked surprised. I don't think anyone has talked back to him before.

He slammed his hand down on the table, "Listen new kid! I am Nadakhan, a seventh grader, and you are a fifth grader. I am older and more powerful, you will listen to me. Got that!" "Ok Nadakhan. I am a fifth grader, I am also younger, but what does that matter? I was sitting here with other fifth graders before you came , so the table is ours for lunch." I shot at him. He stumbled back is shock. "Fine, but you'll be sorry!" he warned as he backed away from the round table giving me a death glare.

I sighed in relief and slid back in my chair, running my fingers through my curly ginger hair. "How did you do that!?"  The tan boy shouted. "Do what?" I asked. "That!" He gestures to Nadakhan and his crew. "You just talked back to the most popular seventh grader!" Cole added. "I'm impressed for sure" The raven haired girl said. "I agree, it was quite impressive that you stood up to Nadakhan like that, but how did you do it?" the blonde asked.

'Too many questions' I thought. "I just put him in his place." I explained, "He deserved it, he's never been stood up to before, he had to realize that he wasn't the boss of everyone, the easy way or the hard way." "Well good job buddy! With you we can never lose.!" The tan boy exclaimed. "Okay?" I responded, 'With you we can never lose. What does he mean by that?' "But, I still don't know your names or anything about you!"

After I said that they sat me down and told me everything about themselves. Everything. It was the only time I felt like I was happy and I belonged. I felt like I was going to be okay.

At least for a while.
