Monday morning, 9.15, classes were about to start; Charlotte, Kevin and Betty sat in their usual seats. 'Have you heard a new student will be coming here.' Said Cheryl. Cheryl, the popular girl, the head cheerleader, Charlotte's old friend. Cheryl and Charlotte used to be friends until their second year in high school, Cheryl grew up faster, got more attention from the boys and started to leave Charlotte behind for the more "popular" kids.
People started to talk now the so called "new girl" was brought up in conversation. 'Hey Betty?' said Kevin quietly. 'Yes Kev?' Betty replied looking away from her textbook. Kevin pointed to Charlotte whom was doodling in the corner of her notebook, as if no one was around. 'Char? It's almost your birthday am I right?' Charlotte looked petrified, worried others would hear what Kevin said.
She looked around, luckily everyone was in their own conversation. 'Kev don't bring that up here, everyone can hear you,' she sighed knowing the look on his face, 'yes my birthday is in 4 days why? What are you planning?' Kevin smiled and shrugged his shoulders as he said, 'If I was planning something I would not tell you that's one and two your birthday is on a Friday which means?' he hoped she would understand the hint he was giving, yet even Betty looked confused.
'That it is after we published the school paper and after the exhibition?' said Charlotte quite confused. Betty smiled 'Happy you don't forget the paper, but Kev what are you going at?' 'Oh, my, god you guys! Friday is the celebration of our friendship!' Kevin was upset that they did not remember it, yet the smiles on their faces made him clear that they were messing with him. 'Kev of course we know that! Are we going to do our tradition? Bowling and a dinner afterwards?' said Charlotte smiling as she placed her head on his shoulder.
'I have something else planned for us is that okay?' Betty and Charlotte looked at Kevin as if he had a third head growing. 'Just promise me it has nothing to do with my birthday, it is already awkward sitting at home that morning.' 'Charlotte don't whine, your mom isn't that bad, neither is Lucas, I mean I am still trying to get him strip that shirt off.' Kevin started biting his lip thinking about how he could do that. 'Kevin gross! It is my brother! I don't care who you date just please not my brother.' Charlotte looked up at Kevin and gave him a slight pout.
'Fine I'll just keep daydreaming about him.' he rested his head on his hand, causing Charlotte's head to fall off his shoulder. 'Okay children silent now,' Mr Morrison said closing the door behind him, 'as you know this semester we will talk about different sexualities, who can name one or two?' he pointed around and his finger landed on Cheryl. 'Ah miss Williams, can you name a sexuality other than straight?' 'Well you have Kevin.' said Cheryl smiling towards him. 'I am gay Cheryl, just say it okay.' said Kevin clearly annoyed. 'Thank you, mister Keller, miss Williams one more answer like that and you will spend your afternoon with the principal.' Cheryl rolled her eyes at mister Morrison's threat and started talking with Anna, also known as, her right hand; best friend.
'Miss Monreal, do you know a different sexuality?' mister Morrison looked at her and Charlotte felt a bit uncomfortable as she felt everyone's eyes in the back of her head. 'Well there is also bisexuality...' 'Do you know what bisexuality means?' asked mister Morrison writing the answer down on the board. 'It means you like both genders, boy and girl, doesn't it?' Charlotte looked at Mr Morrison only to see him nod in approval as he wrote it behind the word Bisexual.
'Miss Smith, can you name another sexuality?' Morrison's eyes fell on Anna after not hearing a witty answer, only to find her in conversation with Cheryl. 'Misses Smith and Williams,' he said sternly, the girls looked up at him; Anna was not too pleased about the angry look in his eyes, 'Miss Williams last warning and Miss Smith this is your first, now do you know another sexuality?' Mr Morrison looked at Anna; she nodded slowly and said, 'There's also lesbian am I right...?' 'Is that not just called gay?' asked Cheryl, making Anna feel stupid for her answer.
