The monsters had started to show up around Thursday of last week. Countless number of people have been brutally murdered and left to die. It only happens after twelve, which I find weird. Mother tells us to lock all the doors and close the blinds half past 11. She has strict rules about looking out the window, but I like to look anyways sometimes. After all, a monster can't kill you by looking at you.
"Lockdown time!" screamed mother from upstairs, her voice seemed shaky.
I ran down the wooden stairs and quickly pulled the curtains over the sliding glass doors. Jack had been out playing at the field, and he wasn't back. I decided not to worry because I knew he could defend himself. Addy and Michelle were upstairs covering the windows, and Grace was readying the weapons.
I ran up back to the bedroom and slid under my bed. Why did we have to do this everyday? Normal kids didn't have to hide under the bed everyday. The door cracked open, and in came Mother, Grace, Addy and Michelle. Addy and Michelle hid in the closet; Mother and Grace joined me under the bed.
"Where's Jack?" I whispered to Mother.
"He'll be here soon," she whispered back.
About thirty minutes later, there was a loud bang on the door. The others seemed to be sleep, so I quietly headed downstairs. The banging continued, louder than before. I pulled back the silk curtains, and what I saw was a boy pounding against the door.
"Let me in!" he screamed. "It's me, Jack, hurry up!"
I hesitated, but opened the door with a shaky hand. Jack rushed in and attempted to shut the door but failed instead. The door flew open, and a shadow like figure slipped in.
Jack tried to fight the figure off, "Get back!"
I fell back onto the floor, staring into the figure's red eyes.
The figure didn't have a body, it was shaped liked a ghost. It had no facial features, instead just glowing red eyes. Its claw-like hands tore into Jack. I couldn't stand back and watch him get hurt.
"Jack are you okay!?" I yelled, falling to the ground to help.
"Watch out Kate!" he screamed, before the figure's claws slashed my shirt. My vision was blurred and I couldn't see very well. All I could make out was a blurry black figure over me. Pow! A gun shot sounded, and the figure was gone. I got up and couldn't remember what had happened. I turned around, there was Mother, holding her pistol. She had a disappointed look on her face.
"I told you to be back a quarter past 11!" she yelled, clearly not in a good mood.
