I'm petrified, my thin long legs that take up most of my 5'6 frame are trembling. The last person that knocked on our door were the police, returning my mother back home from another one of her juul parties. I sprinted across the hall back into my room, flop on my floor, take out my ukulele and start playing the song that always calms me down...

Wise men say

Only fools rush in

But I can't help falling in love with you

Shall I stay?

Would it be a sin

Before I can finish my song my mom once again bursts through my door

"Shut up you-no-good-never-gonna-make-anywhere-in-life scumbag!" she screams at me. Her words hurt, but after 13 years of verbal abuse I'm used to it.

I could barely see them behind my mother's large frame, but peeking in my room through the doorway were the 5 most famous boys in American, possible world history. One Direction.

"Well what are ya waiting for McLaklee??" my mother bellows in her scratchy voice "Get up off the ground and get out of my house!!"

I couldn't believe what I was hearing, I got to my feet and reluctantly walked out towards the front door, my ukulele in hand with the boys a few paces behind me.

"Bye mom" I say before turning to the door and walking out.

"I'm not mom anymore, I'm Courtlyn to you..."

The One Direction boys also say their goodbyes to my mother, I mean Courtlyn. As Nyall walks out I see him hand my mother a small orange square. I'd recognize that after 13 years, she sold me for a single mango juul pod! I couldn't believe it, but Harree was already leading me to the car. Tears formed in my big aquamarine eyes, dampening the rims of my fake round glasses. But I thought to myself as I entered their silver Acura MDX luxury SUV, that anywhere, would be better than there.
