"Mom, Dad? Where are you?"  My voice echoed through the silent house. My heart beating wildly, I plopped my school bag on the floor. I kicked off my shoes, and checked in the kitchen. A plate of still warm cookies were on the table. Grabbing one, I checked the entire house. Maybe they're just out. I shouldn't worry about it. But I knew very well that that was not the truth.

Finally, I went to their room. The bed was made, smoothed without a wrinkle. But wait! Something was on it. A bracelet that was made of pure, glistening, crystal. A broken, sapphire was attached to it. I could tell it was something my mother had made. I glanced at the trash can. Most likely, if what I thought was true, there would be something in it. I was right. A crumpled piece of paper lay on the top. Opening the piece of paper, I read,

"Bri, you're on your own now. We knew the day was coming and we should have maybe told you but we weren't sure if we could trust you.You might see us later. But the chances are very, very small. Signed, Mom and Dad."

What? They left?! They didn't say I'm sorry or explained why they just left?! My head was dizzy. I was confused. They knew the day was coming but they sold the house? Didn't they think of me? Where was I supposed to go? My world spun.

They had left. They were gone forever. I was all alone. Abandoned.
