Dear Havana,

Hey, what's going on? It's been two years since we graduated, and I haven't seen you. I thought I would just write to you. I need to get a few things off my chest, and tell you a couple of things you might want to know.

'I'm broken Do you hear me?

I'm blinded 'cause you are everything I see'

It was the night of the year 12 formal. My hands moved quickly towards the almost empty punch bowl. Why was I so thirsty? Oh yeah, that's right; you, the love of my life, was standing across the room, with your friends, while I was standing over here with my friends.

"She promised." I sighed to myself.

Of course you would break your promise to dance with me. You know that you and I don't belong. Just imagine it- me, the popular kid going out with the out-of-control "emo" girl who liked to cut herself. Notice the quotation marks around emo. People don't know your story.

I do.

Nobody gave you a chance to say why you were cutting yourself, not even your own mother gave you a chance to explain. No-one understood.

Except me.

"Come dance with us, Eddie."

I murmured 'no' and watched my friends shrug and run over to the dance floor. I didn't have a date tonight. When I told my friends, they all stood back, their mouths open in shock. I always had dates for every event. And not having a date to the biggest event of the year, the year 12 formal, was a real shock. A lot of girls asked me, of course, but I refused. I wanted you.

'I'm dancing, alone.

I'm praying that your heart will just turn around'

I saw you again, weaving between the crowds. Are you looking for someone? Is it me? I smiled and hoped that you would walk over and keep your promise. I watched you walk, keeping my eyes on your beautiful face.

I remember the first time I noticed you in my English class. I wished I had payed attention to you before. You walked in and accidently sat in my girlfriend's seat- ex girlfriend now. You kept apologizing and your eyes exploded to the size of baseballs. I didn't notice my friends whispering in the background about how you were 'uncool' or 'emo'. All I noticed was your dark brown hair that you kept pulling back and your dainty fingers that clumsily picked up your books. In a few seconds, you left the table and sat right at the front at the classroom.
