I can't believe my baby is going off to college!" My mom said, tearing up once more. I gave her a Kleenex, which had originally been for me to put in my dorm, but after mom's non-stop sobbing, I ripped apart the glossy plastic holding the box and let mom have it.
My brother, doing all the heavy lifting along with my dad, trailed behind us. Just as mom started to stop the rainfall coming from her eyes, my brother made a joke. It was almost as if he wanted to see if he could do this without making himself look like a total fool. My mom looked at him, seeing what he had to say.
"Aw, my BABY!" my brother said, mocking my mom as she then showed a flash of hurt looking forward again to go up the 2nd set of stairs we'd went up as her eyes turned from dry to glossy. I gave my brother a glare, and knowing he had hurt my mom he apologized. My mom was very emotional at times and took insults personally. But as a family, we respected that and knew when we got out of hand mom could get upset at any time.
As we entered the hallway of my dorm, I looked on the left side looking for my dorm while my mom look at the right. "I hope that your brother looks out for you..." my mom started as she continued searching. My brother was my twin and we went to the same college Why? Simple. We had both received scholarships for the same school- him for football me for swimming. Knowing that full scholarships are hard to come by, we accepted. So while me and mom were looking for my dorm, my brother was registering, which I had already did.
A friendly girl with a name tag saying the name Kate in bold approached us. "Hi! I'm Kate!" she said in a perky, high voice that would have annoyed me if she wasn't so sweet. She had medium-length, brunette hair and was short, yet skinny. She looked like somebody my brother would try to charm.
I muttered a "hello" in response, but when she didn't react, my mother must have noticed she didn't hear me, and I went to my safe spot. It seemed totally immature for me to do this, but as my mom introduced me I slowly went behind her back, peering out. I wasn't used to even this little attention at school, but at home it was different. We were filthy rich. I didn't take it for granted, though.
I knew anything I have could always be gone.
As she talked for what seemed like hours, a guy came tumultuously down the hall. He had a winning smile, a dark quiff, and both our eyes were glued on each other for only a few seconds. His beautiful emerald eyes stared into mine, as if he could read my mind. As I felt my cheeks get hot, I looked away as he passed, and hoped he didn't see me blush. He was very handsome, but I tried my best to keep my composure. I had made a list of things I wouldn't do in college, one of them not being some emotional student, falling for the guy and knowing he didn't acknowledge her presence.
But one major thing that stood out to me, was the way he looked at me
so intense. "Did he like me?" I thought, but her thoughts were immediately erased when his friends whistled at a girl in unison. He was probably some player boy who looked at all girls in a charming way, trying to steal their hearts then break them in no time, then acted like it was nothing.
I promised my self I would never fall for someone like that ever again.
