Kestrel LeStarre peered around the corner. Nobody there.

She looked to her left.

She looked to her right.

Then someone screamed and she jumped.

"Maralie," she shouted. "Shut. The. Hell. Up."

Maralie whimpered.

"But Kessie," Daisy pouted. "You were shouting a few minutes ago..."

"Because you were attacking my LEG, Daisy," Kestrel narrowed her eyes.

"BUT THERE WAS A SPIDER ON IT!" Daisy shrieked.

Valkyrie grinned. "You guys are such idiots."

Kestrel scowled. "Mm hmm, says the girl who dated a vampire."

Valkyrie's smile faded.

Kestrel smirked. Score.

"Come oooonnn," Maralie screamed. "We have to goooooo and save people and stuff!"

"Mara," Kestrel sighed. "Shut. Up."

"Okay!" Maralie giggled.

Valkyrie laughed. "Okay. That was funny."

Jessica rubbed her temple. "I do not know how I live with these guys..."

Skulduggery walked into the room.

"I got a call from Grand Mage Bright," he said. "Apparently there have been four murders in England."

Kestrel's face paled. "Already?"

"Yes. And there has been some kidnapping going on as well."

"Wait..." Kestrel narrowed her eyes. "Are you Skulduggery Pleasant?"

"I am a skeleton," Skulduggery stated.

"You almost killed China Sorrows!" Kestrel yelled.

Valkyrie looked at her. "Uh... what...?"

"China Sorrows is my mentor," Kestrel said angrily.

"Oh. I'm very sorry if I did any permanent damage," Skulduggery said in his silk-like voice.

Kestrel's leap was so sudden Valkyrie jumped back. Jessica cried out and fell backwards as Kestrel landed on her.

"You didn't say ANYTHING about Skulduggery Pleasant," Kestrel hissed.

Maralie and Daisy ran over and tried to pull Kestrel off, but she elbowed them and they fell back, moaning.

"I... I didn't know you had... a grudge against him!" Jessica cried.

Valkyrie gasped and pulled Kestrel off.

"Stop!" Valkyrie yelled.

Kestrel glared at Valkyrie through her hair.

"Skulduggery!" Valkyrie shouted.

"Yes, my dear Valkyrie?" his voice came.

"Help!" she shouted again.

"No!" Kestrel yelled, kicking Valkyrie. She gasped and let go. Kestrel then proceded to attack Skulduggery. He looked at her.

"Do you really think that hurts me?"

She looked at the ground. "No."

"Good." Skulduggery nodded. "Now, let's go to England."

"Are we there yet?"

"No."

"Are we there yet?"

"No."

"Are we there yet?"

"Yes."

"Really?"

"No."

"Darn."

Valkyrie sighed as Maralie and Daisy shouted from the back.

"GUYS!" Jessica and Kestrel screamed simutaneously.

"Shut up!" Valkyrie screamed.

The car was quiet.

"Now THAT," Skulduggery said, "was harsh."

"Oh, shut your skull," Valkyrie muttered.

"That ferry took ages to get here," Valkyrie sighed, stretching her arms.

"Yay!" Maralie screamed. "England!"

"I was born in England!" Daisy screamed.

"No you weren't," Jessica said breezily. "You were born in America."

"SAME DIFFERENCE!" she screamed.

"No it's not," Kestrel replied, stretching.

Daisy sat on the ground and wept. Maralie patted her back.

"It's okay," she soothed.

Valkyrie's eye twitched.

"You scare me." she muttered.

Kestrel hung her head and didn't respond.
