So, because I'm writing a werewolf story (female werewolf/human mate), I've been reading the werewolf stories here on Wattpad to get a feel for the genre and learn of the werewolf mythos.  It's been a while since I've written werewolf stories, and they sure as hell weren't romantic.  So I'm reading these stories, and I'm seeing quite a theme in a lot of them.

Alpha Dominance + Female Mate Submission = Romance, baby.

All I'm going to say is...I can't imagine myself ever submitting to a man who's an absolute ass to me or makes me bow down to him.  I don't even think that's like that for real wolves.  I don't care of we're supposed to be together - you be an ass to me, I'm stomping you in the nuts, plain and simple.  Even if we are fated, you better show me why I should be happy about fate's little arrangement in the first place.  Wolves may be more primal in their dealings, but I'm human, I've got feelings, I've got rights, and I demand respect.

I may be yours to love forever, but I will shoot you square in the eyes if you get fresh with me.

So, I thought that maybe after "She's Golden" that this would be an awesome story to write to go against the grain.  Sure, there is an Alpha Male and a human female, but I wouldn't call their relationship cozy.  The Alpha Male may not be a bulk, tall guy but he's very strong, very fast, and very deadly.  And his human female may not be a wolf, but she's just as deadly.  She will not put up with his crap and will call him out all day, every day.  With resistance like, passions are bound to fly - but only when the two characters submit to each other.

I'll call it "Game on, Alpha" or something like that.

It'll have some elements from a werewolf story I wrote when I was in 8th Grade - Florenta's Past.  When Avery was a sweet teenager, she met a young man online named Leon whom she instantly fell for.  She was eager to meet him, so she set up a meeting.  What she hadn't realized was that Leon was a bloody-thirsty werewolf who was hellbent on making her his.  After rejecting her, he shifts into his monstrous wolf form and leaves destruction in his wake, with her mother brutally killed in the carnage.  Somehow she and her father survive the attack and move in with his mother in a small town surrounded by forested areas.  Avery somehow knows that her attacker is still alive - and it's only a matter of time before he comes for her.  So she trains herself, learns to use a guy, and learns to defend herself.  She vows to become strong enough to fight him, and to avenge her mother's death.

Alex is the Alpha of the local pack, and what he lacks in usual Alpha looks, he makes up for in deadliness.  He's had to make himself strong - after losing his best friend to madness, he's prepared himself for the inevitable.  Should Leon ever step foot in his territory again, he will have to kill him.  He's heard of Avery and her encounters with Leon and intends to use her to accomplish his goal.  This gets complicated when he takes a one whiff of Avery and recognizes her as his mate.  Now he's caught between two goals - protecting Avery and killing the very man who nearly decimated his pack.  He's not a happy camper at all.

The thing with this story is that a lot of focus would be placed on the struggle between Avery and Alex.  Alex is a very dominant, very powerful Alpha and since Avery is his mate, he expects submission.  Avery is just not having in.  She may feel the connection, but she will not let her guard down again.  Plus, she doesn't appreciate some guy barking orders and telling her what she should and shouldn't do.  Alex is both infuriated by this human that isn't afraid to run off at the mouth and enticed because she's so damn beautiful, so fiesty, and smells mouth-watering.  Meanwhile, Avery is attracted to him, and while she hates how he manhandles her, she'd love nothing more than to rip off his clothes and mark him as her own.  They'll both need to work together to take down Leon, who's getting stronger and crazier as the days pass by.

I had this scene in my head, too.  Avery and a male friend helps her to escape from Alex's compound.  Avery knows it's only a matter of time before the pack swarms her.  But she's not interested in escape by fleeing.  She has another plan to escape.  When Alex eventually confronts her, her plan comes to fruition - as the pack already recognizes her as his mate, and knowing full well that Alex will never hurt her, she pulls out a gun and points it squarely at Alex's face.

She warns the pack that she won't hesitate to shoot Alex if he doesn't let her leave.  And she reminds him that while he's fast, she's quite a shot - she stands a good chance of mortally wounding him before he'd disarm her.  Alex knows this, and stays put.

The pack tries to help of course, but Avery reminds each and everyone that she is the Alpha's mate and if any one lays one finger on her, it's treason and the immediate result is death.  Someone brings up that she's not marked, but Avery states that she marked him  (a close call scene earlier maybe).  Alex has no choice to to present the mark to the pack, putting him further in a corner.  Alex comments on how clever she is, and how he unestimated her.  He tries to reason with her, showing the softer side she's seem glimpses of.  Avery is so angry and yet so torn.  She doesn't like being stifled and she wants to be free, and even if she feels a bond with him, she will never be tamed - ever.  She will kill him if it means her freedom because she's sick and tired of being under everyone's thumb - she wants to live, and she wants to be free.

Feeling his mates pain, so he allows her to go.  She drops the gun and is relieved, but only for a second.  As she leaves, her partner, especially contemptous for the wolves,  picks up the gun and attempts to shoot Alex - but Avery reacts and on instinct, puts herself in the line of the fire.  The bullet strikes her and she falls to the ground.  Obviously, Alex loses his mind and the partner is instantly killed by the pack.  Alex freaks out, cradling her in his arms.  When he asks her why she did that when she had to chance to flee, she says "I must be crazy.  I blame the full moon."

So of course, Avery and Alex have to learn to be both dominant and submissive to each other while preparing to defeat Leon, who is absolutely crazed with jealousy when he realizes that Avery and Alex are mates.  I don't know if I have it in me to write this - I don't feel like I'd do it justice because I feel like it would suck.  Also, it's not the same Alpha dominance/Luna submission theme that so many other stories have.  Avery is not a weak-willed person - she wants revenge, and she won't let any man or any Alpha stand in her way.  She will probably slap him or kick Alex's ass a few times.  She will probably be hurt too, but she will not bow willing.

Alex is definitely not the big, buff sort of Alpha or a tall and dark handsome Alpha I see everywhere.  Honestly, I'm not going to lie, I've been trying to create a character inspired by voice actor/former Power Ranger Johnny Yong Bosch (*sighs, fans self*) and Alex would be it.  I see Kat Graham as Avery by the way.  I haven't decided who Leon should be - probably someone who looks crazy.

Of course, there will be restricted scenes.  Dude, you can't write a story with two strong-willed characters without sex popping off.  I mean, it won't be nice at all - it will be very animalistic and very heavy.

So tell me - what do you think?
