Chapter 1 - I'm sure it's nothing

I woke up to the pitter-patter of water on the roof and the sound of my morning alarm. Groaning, I grabbed my phone to turn the alarm off and stumbled out into the kitchen, where I greeted my big brother Jiyong.

"G'morning Ji-Ji." I said with a yawn.

Said brother turned around and beamed an adorable smile at me. "Morning Y/n. I made breakfast." he said, gesturing to the pancakes on the table.

"Who are you and what have you done with my brother?" I laughed.

He put his hand over his heart in faked, exaggerated, heartbreak. "Your words wound me, Y/n."

I laughed harder as I walked over and hugged him. "Thanks, you're the best."

He chuckled then ruffled my hair. "C'mon, let's eat."

We sat down and ate while we discussed various things, including my college classes for the day.

"So what time do you think you'll be home?" my brother eventually asked through a mouthful of pancakes.

"Probably a bit before dinner." I replied, shielding myself from the flying crumbs. "Why?"

He swallowed. "It's just my buddies are meeting me here tonight so we can hang out before work. Don't wanna worry you if you come home late and see a bunch of guys in the house."

"Oh cool, that's fine. I can't wait to see what kind of gay ass hat Seunghyun is wearing this time." I thought out loud before I shoved the last of my pancakes in my mouth.

"Pfft. His hats aren't gay!" he defended his friend.

I stared at him in mild disbelief while chewing slowly.

He sighed. "Okay, well ...maybe a little, but please don't tell him I said that."

"I'll try my best." I grinned and went to put my dishes in the sink.

After I finished my morning routine, I grabbed my raincoat, said goodbye to my brother, and headed out.

Arriving on campus, I found my best friend waiting for me at the entrance. We've only known each other for a short few months but we bonded fast and have already made a habit of walking to class together, just like the first time we met.

"Hey Y/n!" she called.

"Hey, Minji! How've you been?" I asked after I reached her.

"Listen, you would not believe what happened..."

We started to get into our usual gossip and chatter on the way to class but went silent when we overheard what other students were whispering about.

"Did you hear about the gang that's moved nearby? I heard it's mostly women." I heard someone say.

"Yeah, they must be looking for new territory." their friend replied.

"Good luck to them. G-Dragon and his boys won't give it up." They both laughed and walked off.

A gang? Of women? And who is ...J-dragon? I thought to myself. I turned to Minji who had frozen with an unreadable expression on her face. "Did you hear that?" I asked her.

She snapped out of whatever it was. "What? The gossip about the supposed gang?" she let out a strange laugh. "I'm sure it's nothing. Even if it's not, you live in a good neighbourhood, right? You have nothing to worry about." She gave me a quick half-smile.

I took in her words and nodded. I wanted to talk more but she seemed uncomfortable so I didn't press further and just walked with her to the classroom without another word.

Minji was closed-off for the rest of the day. I tried asking her what was wrong but she kept hiding her face in her short hair and saying 'Don't worry about it, Y/n.' so I decided to let it go and give her a break, and then ask her tomorrow. Besides, I had Jiyoung's friends to mess with tonight. That'd keep my mind off of Minji.

When I got home and opened the door, the delicious smell of my brother's cooking hit me in the face.

"Ji-Ji, what are you doing?" I walked over and wrapped my arms around him.

He raised his eyebrows and looked at me over his shoulder. "What does it look like I'm doing? I'm making dinner for us."

I gave him my best puppy eyes. "You didn't have to, you already made breakfast today. You should've let me cook dinner for once."

"You know I still feel bad for leaving you on your own every night. Just let me look after you." He turned around in my arms and hugged me properly. "Now let me go before the rice burns."

I laughed and then obliged.

We were eating our dinner when his friends started showing up and then promptly stuffing their faces with the leftovers. I was right about Seunghyun wearing a gay hat again. This time it was a white cowboy hat, and it didn't match his outfit at all which was black jeans and his bomber jacket over a t-shirt. On the flip side, I noticed that Youngbae was wearing skinny jeans and nothing under his leather jacket. Daesung appeared the neatest, in leather pants and a dress shirt. I looked around for my brother's last friend, but he suddenly slid into the chair right beside me, then leaned in a little too close and flashed a smile at me. His presence made me uncomfortable.

"Hey Y/n, you look nice." Seungri said in a low voice. I shifted my chair slightly away from him, but he closed the gap again. He looked me up and down, then stared into my eyes and smirked, and I swear he looked like he was going to eat me. I couldn't look away, in fear he would pounce. Somewhere in the blur of the background, I heard coughing and an eruption of laughter. Seungri was distracted by it for a moment so I managed to pull my eyes away and looked to my brother in moderate panic, but he and the other guys were also distracted. Daesung was choking on a mouthful of food. I used the opportunity to escape from the man/beast/creep beside me and rushed to get some water for poor Daesung.

I avoided Seungri for the remainder of the time he was here, so by the time they started heading out, my good mood was coming back. I decided to tease my brother for the sake of it, so I attempted to plant a sloppy kiss on his cheek as we said goodnight. But he realised my plan and held me back at arm's length as I struggled in his grip and his friends laughed. After I stopped playing around and farewelled them properly, my brother ruffled my hair and they all walked out the door.

After my brother and his friends left, I cleaned up and then curled up in bed with some netflix. About 3 episodes in, and almost asleep, I shot awake due to the sound of my phone telling me of a new message. I rubbed some of the drowsiness from my eyes then picked up my phone to read the message.

Minji

Hey Y/n, about today

I wasn't feeling like myself and didn't mean to act distant

Can we meet up early tomorrow so I can buy you breakfast to say sorry?

I shut off the tv and tried to massage feeling back into my leg before typing my reply.
