[twenty seven]

jisoo fidgeted in her seat. she couldn't stay still. she ran her hand through her hair for about the millionth time. her fingers tugged onto the hem of her green woollen cardigan. she picked at the thread and wrapped it around her finger.

her heart was palpitating wildly as the nerves swallowed her whole. jisoo looked opposite her and there sat a young woman with a little girl beside her.

"mama, can we get ice cream after this?" the little girl squeaked as she brushed her long black hair behind her ear.

"of course, darling. whatever you want." the mother smiled at her daughter whole heartedly, her eyes transforming into thin crescents whilst she stared at her daughter lovingly.

jisoo always had a complicated relationship with her mother but when she was that age, around seven, her mother was the world to her. the two girls in front of her reminded her of herself and her own mother and how they were over twenty years ago.

jisoo couldn't imagine herself with her daughter like that. jisoo wanted to be the best mother for the baby but she was having cold feet. she refused to allow entry to bad thoughts in her mind. today was supposed to be a good day.

"kim jisoo?" the nurse called her name.

jisoo exhaled everything negative and all her nerves and stood up with her hand raised in the air. "here." she said.

"we're ready for you. come on now." the nurse smiled brightly and motioned towards room 4.

the ends of jisoo's lips curved upwards into a small smile as taehyung placed a supportive hand on her shoulder.

"you can do this." those four words gave jisoo a sudden boost of confidence and courage. "let's go." he said and led her to the same room the nurse disappeared into.

twenty minutes passed and the doctor's silence made both taehyung and jisoo nervous. the doctor remained quiet and continued to observe the monitor.

taehyung thought he was ready but deep down he was scared — terrified. how on earth was he supposed to take care of a child? be a father?! he's dreamed of having a child of his own for ages, since he was a kid really, but now that his fantasies changed into a reality, everything was just so overwhelming. he prayed that he would be the best father for his child and partner to jisoo but he couldn't even imagine it.

though it was happening now and in this moment, it still felt like a dream. so far-fetched.

taehyung's father was always busy with workload and the hospital throughout his childhood and so he rarely saw him. after school when taehyung received his exam grades he rushed home to share the good news to his father but he always came home to his maid. taehyung loved his maid because she was like a mother figure to him and sometimes a father figure too, it's just sometimes he wished his father paid more attention to him.

now that taehyung was going to be a father of his own, he promised to always be with his child, always play with them and give them all his love because that's what they deserved.

jisoo looked to taehyung and sighed when she saw the same confusion in his eyes.

the silence was then interrupted by a sudden heartbeat. it echoed throughout the room and taehyung's ears perked up. he looked at jisoo with nothing less than joy and pure happiness.

"is th-that the baby?" jisoo stuttered as she awkwardly sat up a little.

the doctor nodded, a small smile on his face. he then left the room to give the two some time to themselves. and as soon as he did, taehyung jumped on jisoo. his arms wrapped around her neck and the hugest smile on his face.

"oh, my god, jisoo!" he squealed like a five year old girl receiving a new doll on her birthday.

jisoo laughed out loud, her heart fluttering and doing somersaults as his touch brought warmth to her body.

"i know, i'm excited too."

he pulled away from the hug but when he did their faces were so close. again they both felt the same urge, the same drive to just kiss each other. but one thing was holding them back.

the fact that they were both scared.
