When I arrived at the hospital, Phillis was still asleep. The nurse told me she had woken up a few minutes ago and was told I had gone to get her some clothes. But she must have drifted to sleep again. I folded the clothes in the closet facing the bed and went to sit by her side. I took out my phone and checked the class page and I was very settled when I realized no one knew what had happened to Phillis, else they'd definitely be talking about it. They had changed the subject over what had happened in the bar to debate over whether or not the following week's lectures would come off. I put the phone in the chair and took out the note. I was very happy he worried about her.

Phillis woke up just then and asked for water. Then she asked about the note which I showed her. Her smile disappeared and her face turned serious after she read it.

"He's not wrong." She said as she handed me the note. "And neither were you. God, I can see it so clearly now." She sniffed and sighed.

"Phillis, what happened to you?" I asked.

Tears fell from the corner of her eye and she pressed a button at the side of the bed to turn the bed in a sitting position. I saw how difficult it was for her to talk about it, but before I could protest for her silence, she spoke.

"It was Jeff. He did this to me. It was him."

I knew Jeff had something to do with what had happened to her, but I never thought he was the one who actually assaulted her. Phillis was so badly injured that I didn't even want to imagine how it must have all gone down. But I didn't have to. She went ahead and amidst sobs, told me everything that happened that night. As soon as she finished narrating her ordeal, I was able to convince her to report the matter to the police. So I called the police and they showed up to take Phillis' statement. She left nothing out.

After they were thrown out of the bar, Jeff had wanted to go someplace else. But his friends were too tired and decided to go home. And so when they left, Phillis drove Jeff home. But whiles in his intoxicated state, Phillis expressed her displeasure with his actions at the karaoke and threatened to leave him if he ever dared to do such things again. And just as she was about to walk out, Jeff quickly grabbed her and refused to let her go. They struggled but he was stronger than her, although he was drunk. He pushed her. She hit the floor. And he just begun to hit her. First with his hands and then with his feet. He told her, as he beat her, that he would kill her if she ever left him or spoke to him like that again. Luckily, he was still drunk and soon staggered and tripped on the car keys that had fallen on the tiles during the struggle. He fell and lost consciousness. She managed to get up from the floor and get out of the house. She made it to a few blocks away and hailed the first taxi she saw but collapsed before it got to her. And then she woke up the next morning in the hospital with a few broken bones, lots of severe injuries and bruises and cuts all over her body.

The police noted everything she said and left soon after. About an hour later, the detective called to report that they had arrested Jeff. And that given his state and the state of his living room when they picked him up; the blood on his clothes and the tiles, and the blood drops leading outside the house, matched perfectly with Phillis' statement. They were going ahead to officially place him under arrest and carry on with the case. Phillis was going to get justice for what had been done to her.

It was now time to call the parents.
