Harry watched as the list of things wrong with him grew.
"Misplaced collarbone, cracked ribs, a broken leg that healed improperly, fractures in his skull, contusions on his left temple," Madame Pomfrey kept scanning more and more of his parts and saying the wounds out loud so a quick notes quill could write them down on a parchment that kept growing longer. Harry watched the egg that was placed in his lap with intense focus, trying to distract himself as he was poked and prodded with the wand.
Newt held onto Harry's ankle gently and kept whispering softly to the boy.
"It's okay, Harry. You're doing so well. It's almost over. Not much longer now," he murmered like a creek.
"Okay, Harry," Madame Pomfrey said softly "I'm going to do one last spell on you and then you can rest, okay?"
Harry swallowed and nodded. The egg moved a little in his lap. It was a tiny thing and for a second Harry feared he had broken it. He sighed softly in relief and a cool tingling went through his body like he was being turned into a lemon ice pop. Poppy's eyebrows furrowed into confusion as a giant stack of paper almost as high as Harry himself appeared next to the bed.
"M-maybe I did the spell wrong," she said, watching the pile grow taller in shock.
Newt watched the pile grow with a pained expression on his face. His grip on Harry's ankle tightened till Harry looked at his hand curious about where the new pain was coming from. Newt looked at Harry for a second before blushing and pulling his hand back.
"Sorry, Harry," he said in a soft voice "Hope I didn't hurt you there,"
"You didn't," Harry lied, looking back at the egg which had a tiny crack going through the middle of it.
Harry gasped softly and picked up the egg very gently. His eyes started filling with tears and he looked up at Newt. Harry's throat tightened and his heart hurt a lot.  Tears spilled over onto his shirt.
"Daddy," he said, his voice breaking.
"Hm?" Newt said, looking up at Harry "What's wrong, Harry?"
"I killed it," Harry said, holding the egg out for him to see.
Newt looked at the egg and smiled.
"No, Harry. Watch," Newt said, smiling as it cracked more. "Wait for it,"
A small head popped out of the egg, goop falling off it's chin. Harry gasped as the tiny creature placed a tiny claw on the egg shell. His breath caught when the shell broke and the animal fell forward and slipped out of the egg. It spun in his hand and sat on it's butt. Harry giggled as the tiny tail tickled his palm and the animal sneezed.
"That, Harry, is a Parasaurolophus. It's a type of dinosaur. Usually they are vegetarians, but this little guy," Newt said gently patting the sticky creatures head "Is a cross between a Parasaurolophus  and a Velociraptor."
Harry looked closer at the tiny animal, watching the tiny scales glisten in the sunlight.
"But he is also part chameleon as well," Newt said, petting the delicate spine "But completely docile, Harry. Completely able to train if you are down for the task. And he won't grow as large as his ancestors maybe to the size of a kitten but no larger than that,"
Harry nodded and waggled a finger at the tiny animal. It looked at its little claw and slowly waved it up and down back at Harry. Soon it got proud of the action it had learned and waved both 'hands' up and down at Newt and Harry. Harry smiled and gently put him back in the warm box. Newt went into his pocket and pulled out a tiny jar which held a single ant. Newt gestured for Harry to watch as he tipped the jar into the white box. It crawled around dazed for a few seconds before realizing the dinosaur was standing in front of it. The dinosaur licked the ant up with its tongue and ate it without a second thought.
"Cool," Harry whispered reaching down to pet the tiny guy.
"Excuse me, Newt," Madame Pomfrey said, softly "But can we talk,"
"Of course," Newt said, putting his sketchbook and quil in his pocket and standing up "Harry do not let him out of that box. I'll bring you a habitat for him to settle into tomorrow okay?"
Harry nodded and continued to watch the tiny dinosaur wave at him.
"Can I name him?" Harry asked as they walked into the office.
"Of course," Newt said, "After all he is your pet,"
The door shut with a soft click and Harry smiled softly.
